Spring semester has already started which means Ag Day aka Maryland Day will soon be upon us! For those who do not know, Block and Bridle hosts an Ag Day Livestock Show every spring on Maryland Day where students from any Major/skill level are allowed to participate in, learn good showmanship skills for their desired species, and compete in front of real livestock show judges. Students can choose to show lambs, swine, dairy, and/or beef heifers. Each species will have a few coaches that will educate students on how to properly handle and show that specific animal along with what kind of questions the judges may ask.

For those who have participated in Ag Day before, we hope you had an amazing time last year and wish to invite you to participate once again! If you have coached in the past or are interested in coaching this year, there is an Ag Day Coaching Application linked here. Coaching is a great opportunity to improve your leadership skills and is highly recommended. This year we will be having students join an ELMS Course to satisfy their mandatory orientation session where they will be briefed of all the rules and regulations regarding animal handling and will have access to the required forms. In order to do so, students must fill in the Ag Day 2020 Sign Up form linked here. The form must be done by February 23rd and the total fees must be paid by then (unless there is an issue and the Ag Day Coordinator has been informed).

The following are the mandatory show fees:
  • BEEF- $25 (Can only show if a person has previous handling experience)
  • DAIRY- $25
  • LAMBS- $20
  • SWINE- $15
*Note that the prices are different based on the time commitment each species requires thus you can assume Beef requires the most time (4-5 hrs) and swine requires the least time (2hrs) per week. In the instance that you choose to show more than one species, you are required to pay fees for all species.

You can Venmo your fees to @UMD-BlockandBridle or email me to pay in cash or if you have any issues with payment. If you have any questions, please email the Ag Day Coordinator umdblockandbridleagday@gmail.com
