Climate Advocacy: Fellowships, Internships, Conferences, and Lobbying

Citizens’ Climate Lobby is a national nonprofit organization that builds political will for climate solutions. Below are some upcoming opportunities for students and educators to take meaningful action on climate change:

Environmental Advocacy Symposium
The 2020 Environmental Advocacy Symposium will highlight research, teaching, and practice of environmental advocacy. The symposium will be held at Pace University in New York, June 10, 2020.
The Association of Environmental Science Studies Conference will follow the Environmental Advocacy Symposium from June 11-13 at Pace University. The theme this year is "research in action." Registration is now open.

Citizens’ Climate International Conference and Lobby Day
More than 1500 volunteers will gather in Washington DC for the Citizens’ Climate International Conference and Lobby Day in June 2020. The conference includes two days of keynote speakers, breakout sessions, and workshops on climate. Then on Tuesday, we meet with all congressional offices to build support for the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act. Save the date June 7-9.
Fellowships and Internships
We are accepting applications for Spring and Summer 2020 interns. Interns work behind the scenes with our staff for our conferences, outreach, engagement, and advocacy. See citizensclimatehighered.org/chapter-interns for descriptions and how to apply. In addition internships with the national organization, students can also intern with local chapters. Please reach out to your local chapter leader to find out if they would like to host an internship.

Apply to be a Campus Leader
CCL's Campus Leaders Program empowers students to become climate leaders in their community! Students can earn 1 credit or certificate to participate in a 15 week training program in climate advocacy and campus organizing. Students in the accelerated track of the program work on a campaign or start a group on their campus. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Please visit our Campus Leaders Page to learn more.

Instructional Content
We offer instructional content and experiential learning support on climate change, carbon pricing, and civic engagement. Educators can use our webinars, films, presentations, and readings in their courses. You can also request a CCL speaker to present to your class or campus. We are a part of the Bard Climate Speakers Network composed of expert national speakers on climate and energy in every state in the country. Speakers can be requested through the website at no charge.

Earth Week Collaborations
We can collaborate with you on Earth Week events, such as film showings, speakers, and tabling. We can support you in organizing an event to talk to your legislators about climate change. Our students have organized climate forums, lobby days, and direct actions. We can conduct skills workshops in topics like lobbying, social media advocacy, or writing letters to the editor.

Endorsements
CCL is currently working with our partner organizations to gain university presidents endorsements for the Higher Education Carbon Pricing Endorsement Initiative. Over fifty college and university presidents have signed onto the letter, and the initiative has been featured in Huffington Post, Inside Higher Ed, Wired Magazine, and the Emmy Award-winning documentary series Years of Living Dangerously.
