Public Horticulture Internship - State Arboretum of Virginia

Public Horticulture Internship

Description

The State Arboretum of Virginia, located at the University of Virginia’s Blandy Experimental Farm in Boyce, VA is offering a 10-week internship in Public Horticulture to begin approximately May 20, 2019 and end approximately July 26, 2019. Start and end dates are negotiable.

Interns will gain experience assisting with the care and maintenance of the Perennial Gardens and Native Plant Trail. Activities within these areas will include routine care (weeding, mulching, and planting), removal of invasive plants, plant records management, and more. The intern will have the opportunity to assist with Summer Camp for rising second through eighth graders. Approximately three weeks of the internship will be working with Environmental Education staff and camp attendees. Other projects will be developed as time allows.

The intern will have access to summer public programs free of charge, the library collections, and will work closely with various members of the arboretum staff and volunteers.

The Public Horticulture Intern will receive a stipend of $4000 paid in two installments during the program. Dormitory-style housing is available on site.

The State Arboretum of Virginia (also known as the Orland E. White Arboretum) occupies the central 172 acres of Blandy Experimental Farm.
