League of Women Voters of PG County Boyd-Nash/Ginter Scholarship

The League of Women Voters of Prince George’s County (LWVPGC) Maryland is a nonpartisan political organization which encourages the participation of citizens in government. This award is in memory of Thelma Boyd–Nash and in honor of Dorothy Ginter, both teachers and pioneers in the League of Women Voters of Prince George’s County Maryland. 

This organization seeks to build women and men leaders who are committed to service in their personal, school, and community lives by awarding two (2) $500 college scholarships and a one-year membership in the LWV. 

Winners will be announced at the annual meeting in the Spring of 2022 for the Fall 2022 semester. This award is given to applicants who are residents of Prince George’s County, Maryland and attending Bowie State University, Prince George’s Community College, or the University of Maryland in Prince George’s County.

Requirements:
  • A current copy of applicant’s transcript or latest report card.
  • Two (2) letters of reference, one of which has to be of applicant’s service to a community organization.
  • A typed, double-spaced essay of 450-500 words on (1) Voter Rights: How can we ensure
  • freedom to vote for all? Or (2) Climate Change: How can I as an individual influence climate change.
  • All applications must be signed and postmarked by March 15, 2022
