Glynwood Center Livestock & Vegetable Apprenticeships - Clear Spring, NY

 Glynwood is thrilled to be recruiting livestock and vegetable apprentices for the 2023 season. Information about each apprenticeship is included below. You can refer people to our website to view full postings and to apply. 


Livestock Apprenticeship 

Glynwood seeks two apprentices to assist in all aspects of production for our multi-species livestock operation. Glynwood pastures cattle, sheep, hogs and poultry. Work includes day-to-day care of the animals as well as monitoring breeding, birthing, caring for sick or injured animals, and pasture management. The livestock apprentice positions are ten months, from March to December. Some livestock farming experience is required. Compensation includes a private room in on-site shared apprentice housing, a $650 weekly stipend, and $400 in a Healthcare Reimbursement Account.


Vegetable Apprenticeship

Glynwood seeks three apprentices to assist in all aspects of production for our 6 acres of vegetables. Work includes greenhouse management, cover cropping, irrigation, tractor field work, fertility management, harvesting, post-harvest handling, staffing CSA distribution and farm store, record keeping, season extension, pest and disease control, weed management, and composting. The vegetable apprentice positions are 9 months, from mid-March to mid-December. One season of experience on a farm is required. Compensation includes a private room in on-site shared apprentice housing, a $650 weekly stipend, and $400 in a Healthcare Reimbursement Account.


Hudson Valley Apprenticeship

The Hudson Valley Apprenticeship (HVA) is a decentralized apprenticeship program, with farms in Columbia, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, and Ulster counties serving as farm mentors. Apprentices will have the opportunity to gain a solid foundation in the principles and practices of sustainable vegetable production through a combination of hands-on learning, in-field mentoring, and classroom-based education. Compensation is minimum wage or higher for field work, with hourly compensation of $20/hour for classroom trainings. Some participating farms provide housing.
