Entomology Faculty Asst. Position

Title: Faculty Assistant 

Location: College Park, MD 

Department: CMNS, Entomology

Position description: The Krishnan Lab in the Entomology department at the University of Maryland, College Park, is seeking a full-time faculty assistant (40 hours/week). The position will start in January/February 2024. The faculty assistant will develop and disseminate extension materials related to pesticide education. They will also help maintain insect colonies and oversee day-to-day running of the lab.  

Primary responsibilities: 

1. Reading documents and developing resources (including flyers, presentations, and extension publications) on pesticide use and regulations. 

2. Undertaking needs assessments of different stakeholder groups and presenting at grower/pesticide applicator meetings. 

3. Helping rear and maintain insect colonies (butterflies, moths, beetles, flies). 

4. Purchasing laboratory supplies, updating chemical inventories, undertaking laboratory safety inspections, and, if needed, assisting other lab members with their research projects.  

Required qualifications: 

1. Bachelor’s degree (degree should be obtained prior to start date). 

2. Good writing skills. 

3. Good organizational skills (must be confirmed by references). 

4. General biology/chemistry laboratory experience. 

Preferred qualifications: 

1. Experience in outreach/extension. 

2. Experience with graphic design or related skillsets. 

3. Experience managing a laboratory. 

4. Experience working with insects. 

Closing date: Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis and the position will remain open until filled. Position start date is January/February 2024.
