FAO Webinar- The Power of Youth for Agricultural Transformation: A View from Sub-Saharan Africa

Sub-Saharan Africa is home to almost one billion people, and the majority of them are young. Today, more than 60 percent of Africans are under the age of 25. By 2050, the population of the region is expected to double, and half will be under 18.

Without proper interventions, this rapid population growth will magnify the strains on the agriculture landscape and food system. However, the intellectual and creative capital that Africa’s youth possess, can be unleashed to achieve the region’s agricultural development goals, and corresponding benefits of food and nutrition security, educational outcomes and health and economic development.

To deliver on this vision, improved farming methods and innovations must be accessible to and adopted by farmers. Youth, as change agents, can be the catalyst for increased uptake of best practices and innovations, and enable widespread agricultural transformation.

Join FAO North America, Alliance to End Hunger and Humanitas Global for a webinar that will bring global and frontline perspectives of agricultural engagement where youth learn, thrive and achieve. Our distinguished keynote speaker and panelists will address the need to mobilize and activate school-aged youth for agricultural development and innovation uptake. They will also share experiences in building youth-centered agricultural pathways at school and within the very communities where youth deploy their learnings for immediate impact.
