Terps for Change Volunteer Opportunity

With the spring semester beginning, Terps for Change is looking for new students to add to their family. It is a great opportunity to gain real world experience and professional development through community service and the discussion of important social issues. You can gain volunteer experience while helping to build a community of like-minded Terps!

The Terps for Change Program in the LCSL office at STAMP is a semester long commitment for students interested in learning more about social change and social justice while volunteering in their local community. There is a wide array of community service sites, ranging from working to remove invasive species to tutoring local high school students, and more. Throughout the past 5 years, the Hispanic Access Foundation has offered enriching environmental education internships for upcoming Latinx professionals who are passionate about public land conservation and heritage preservation.

Ecology Plus Green Opportunities, Diversity Workshop, & Career Fair

National Park Service Summer 2019 Paid Internships


The U. S. National Park Service (NPS) National Capital Region (NCR), Office of Natural Resources and Science (NRS) is seeking to fill three paid internship positions. Interns will work closely with the NPS Urban Ecology Research Learning Alliance’s Science Education Coordinator. 


UERLA is a National Park Service Research Learning Center that serves 16 parks in National Capital Region. They translate complex research results into readily understandable information, providing research, education, and technical assistance for parks. UERLA also provides science communication outreach to park managers and external audiences via websites, workshops, and publications. UERLA maintains research and education partnerships with universities, not-for- profit, education, and other federal agencies. The education activities of UERLA include providing training opportunities for NPS staff and partners, participating in science education programs, and building external partnerships that support science education in parks. Within the Natural Resources and Science Office, other science programs, such as botany, wildlife, geology, air resources, and inventory and monitoring, aquatic ecology work with the Urban Ecology Research Learning Alliance on interdisciplinary projects.
Students must be enrolled in a degree program at the University of Maryland. The positions are University of Maryland paid internships. Students should consult with their academic advisor to determine if they can also receive academic credit for their internship.

Summer Internship Opportunities in Environmental Science, Engineering & Management

The Chesapeake Research Consortium (CRC) is pleased to announce that eight (8) summer internship positions in various areas of environmental science, engineering, and management will be awarded in 2019 through the Chesapeake Student Recruitment, Early Advisement, and Mentoring (C-StREAM) Program.

Overview: The C-StREAM Fellowship program provides financial support (stipend and housing) for summer internship experiences with Chesapeake Bay Program partnering institutions to undergraduate students at all levels (rising sophomore through post-Baccalaureate), with preference to promising applicants from typically under-represented populations who wish to explore careers in environmental restoration, protection, and management, particularly as related to estuarine systems and their watersheds.

The program offers internship experiences with scientists, faculty, and project managers at CRC member institutions) and at the US EPA-administered Chesapeake Bay Program Office (CBPO), including the NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office (NCBO). In 2019, we anticipate having three (3) C-StREAM fellows embedded within summer research internships at CRC member institutions, three (3) at the CBPO, and two (2) with NCBO.

Each 2019 summer internship will include a $5,000 or $6,000 stipend (commensurate with host program location and duration) and with additional allowance for (or provision of) housing. In some cases, additional allowance for travel and food may be provided.  “Match” between student applicants and host institution/mentor will be made on the basis of information provided in the student application and in follow-up correspondence with mentors and applicant finalists.

Program Dates:  In general, each summer internship will have a duration of 8- to 12-weeks. Details of program start and end dates will vary with host institution. Further information will be made available over time through the C-StREAM website and in correspondence with applicant finalists.

Summer 2019 Russell Brinsfield Agro-Ecology Internship Program

The Harry R. Hughes Center for Agro-Ecology, Inc. and the Agriculture Law Education Initiative (ALEI) are seeking law and undergraduate student applicants interested in careers in agriculture, environmental conservation, forestry, and/or policy for the 2019 Russell Brinsfield Agro-Ecology Summer Internship program. Two students will be selected for this residential internship, which includes a competitive salary and free housing located at the Wye Research and Education Center in Queenstown, Maryland. Interns will:
• Participate in the multidisciplinary activities of the Hughes Center
• Attend regional leadership meetings for agriculture and natural resources
• Have the opportunity to learn from and support research agronomists at the University of Maryland’s Wye Research Farm
• Support ALEI’s staff in the creation and administration of legal education resources and programs
• Support Hughes Center and ALEI staff in developing proposals for future projects
• Attend and contribute to Forestry Action Plan regional meetings
Interns must:
• Be a licensed driver with their own reliable transportation
• Attend Hughes Center events throughout the summer. Some weekend or evening hours may be required
Compensation: Interns will be paid $14/hour for a 40-hour work week.

Housing: On-site housing offered at the Wye Research and Education Center, Queenstown, Maryland for the duration of the internship.
