RECOGNIZING CAMPUS COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP

Omicron Delta Kappa – one of the most prestigious national societies to recognize leadership – is now

accepting applications for the Fall 2025 semester. The Sigma Circle of ODK at College Park began in 1927 and, since then, has initiated over 4,000 students, faculty, staff, alumni, and honorary members. ODK tapped Senator Joe Tydings in 1950 when he was playing varsity lacrosse and US Congressman Steny Hoyer in 1962 when he was SGA Vice President. ODK has also initiated other proven leaders such as Civil Rights Activist Julian Bond, Coach Brenda Frese, ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt, and President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The names of all of these outstanding leaders, along with many others, are engraved on the ODK Fountain on McKeldin Mall. Some of our current members include Goldwater Scholars, National

Champions, presidents and founders of many campus organizations, editors, writers, journalists, and

performers. Additionally, many of our Sigma Circle members advocate for the members of our campus

community through SGA, RHA, advisory committees, and steering groups.

ODK brings together junior, senior, and graduate students with our most outstanding faculty and staff

members, to recognize campus leaders and to encourage other students to achieve. We seek accomplished

leaders in five areas of campus community life.

Omicron Delta Kappa requires a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.690 for juniors (60-89

credits), 3.710 for seniors (90+ credits), and 3.800 for graduate students to be considered for membership.

• Who is DSAC?
• The Dean’s Student Advisory Council envisions an academic experience that is equitable, accessible, and of high quality for all students in AGNR. 
  
  
• What do we do?
• "The Dean’s Student Advisory Council will be a forum of and for the students of AGNR. The Council will serve the College’s student body by facilitating dialogue and relationship-building among students, staff, faculty, and alumni. Members will evaluate College and Department policies and disseminate information to students. The Council will listen to student concerns, and advocate on their behalf to the Dean’s Office and Department Chairs. As necessary and possible, the Council will unite the AGNR student body for professional and social events and causes."
  
  
• Who can join DSAC?
• Undergraduate students pursuing an AGNR major are invited to apply! The council aims to be a representation of the college's diverse student body, including members from all college departments/programs and other key student populations.
  
  
• What is the time commitment?
• Meetings: The council meets ~9 times each semester; once every two weeks (typically in the evening) with an extra meeting or two added as needed for event prep.
• Events: We host two events per semester; one is our popular Midterm Support Kit event and the other is a forum/open meeting featuring the Dean(s) of AGNR.

Join us on April 3, 2024 for the annual AGNR Discovery and Innovation Night! This signature event will bring together AGNR students, faculty, staff, alumni, and industry professionals for an evening of connecting. This program will feature the student experience showcase: an opportunity for students to show off and highlight the impactful experiences they have taken advantage of outside of the classroom (think internships, study abroad, research, etc.).

Kesem at University of Maryland

Are you interested in gaining leadership and mentorship experience? Are you interested in working with kids 6-18 years old? Do you hate cancer? If you said yes to any of these questions, then Kesem at University of Maryland may be the perfect organization for you! Kesem is a nonprofit organization committed to supporting children through and beyond their parent’s cancer. We do this through completely FREE programming including a week-long summer camp, biannual reunions, care packages, zoom calls, and more!

LEAFhouse Cooperative

 The LEAFhouse Cooperative is a new initiative at UMD geared towards uniting sustainability across campus. We aim to build a network that makes sharing resources, collaborating on projects, co-hosting events, fundraising, and promoting sustainability on campus more accessible and connected. We want to make sustainability opportunities more discoverable to students and make community participation easier for everyone. All clubs, students, and faculty, regardless of their home department or focus, are welcome so long as a part of them focuses on sustainability in some way. We hope to have our first meeting with representatives from all interested clubs in the next two weeks and are planning a kick-off celebration for Earth Week. We currently host weekly planning meetings at 4 pm on Fridays over Zoom for anyone interested in attending. Epsilon Eta Networking Event

Do you wish you were better at networking? Do you want to know more of your AGNR peers? If so, come to Networking 101! We will start with a brief lesson on how to be a great networker, followed by two interactive activities where you can practice networking with other AGNR students. Plant Futures

The Plant Futures Initiative (PF) is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to equipping and empowering the next generation of ethical leaders and entrepreneurs in the plant-forward food system. There are a growing number of students who are  eager to work in the plant-based food sector and seek the resources needed to equip them for the increasing amount of opportunities. We work with students to develop an authentic path of impact both on campus and beyond. 

In response to this demand, we are currently expanding the program we began at UC Berkeley in 2021 to a growing network of 30 university chapters.  Our chapter programming consists of community building around food systems curriculum and experiential learning that help facilitate the acquisition of internships, jobs, and mentors for our students. By joining a chapter, students can expect to connect with like-minded peers and experts engaged in multidisciplinary focused work to improve food-related outcomes.  

We are excited to start a chapter at University of Maryland and encourage any students that are interested to find a time via calendly to meet with Eric Sirvinskas (Chapter Community Manager). Student Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (SASLA) Career Fair

SASLA (Student Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects) is holding a career panel on Tuesday, February 28 at 6-8pm in Critique Hall (Room 0104) in the Plant Sciences Building. Professionals from different specializations within landscape architecture will be visiting our campus to give brief presentations and participate in a Q&A session. AGNR Student Council Fundraiser - NOW LIVE! Get your AGNR Apparel Now!

The AGNR Student Council, would like to announce the launch of our Fall 2022 Apparel Fundraiser Proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards supporting future AGNR Student Council events and building community among our student organizations. 

The design used in this fundraiser was the winning one chosen from the college-wide contest we held earlier this semester. Congratulations to Zoe Jarvis for submitting the winning design! 

The sale ends November 27th and is open to the entire AGNR community. My name is Hannah Schaadt I am the President of the Adele H. Stamp chapter of Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society. On behalf of our Executive Board and National Office, I am extending an invitation for you to apply for membership into our chapter!
 
With Adele H. Stamp founding the University of Maryland chapter in 1934, Mortar Board is one of the premier national honor societies on campus recognizing college seniors for superior achievement in scholarship, leadership, and service. Only top students are accepted to join this esteemed society, making it one of the most prestigious organizations on campus. Mortar Board is one of only five honor/leadership societies recognized by President Pines during graduation commencement ceremonies. 
 
Membership will only be given to students who truly exemplify excellence in Leadership, Service, and Scholarship. If you are planning to continue studying at the University of Maryland for at least one more full term, then I highly encourage you to apply for membership into Mortar Board. Unfortunately, those graduating in December 2022 would not be eligible for selection.

Sustainable Ocean Alliance Executive Board Application!

Join the SGA Sustainability Committee!

 The SGA Sustainability Committee is a student group that aims to be the sustainability voice for all students on campus. We pass bills and hold events to educate the campus community, to push the university administration, and to advocate for meaningful climate and environmental action on local and state levels. Last year, we encouraged President Pines’ decision to commit to making our on campus power plant fossil fuel free by 2035, influenced the University to pause development on Guilford Woods, provided testimony to the Prince George’s County CAP, testified on MGA bills, established a stipend program for people in sustainability internships and so much more!

This year, some of our current work includes planning to replace current UMD shuttles with electric buses, running environmental justice events, launching a Sustainability Conference, organizing clothing swaps on campus, mapping potential sites for solar panels on campus. Our projects are all student-proposed and driven! Come join us to get involved in these projects or to start your own project, all majors are wanted! We're also a social group! In past years, we've done day hikes and game nights. We also run a mini-grant program, where members of our committee analyze grant requests for up to $2,000. Mini-grant participants get experience critiquing, assessing, and evaluating student, staff, and faculty proposed sustainability projects. We meet on Thursdays at 7:00pm in the SGA Office (in the Student Organization Resource Center (SORC) in the STAMP Student Union - take a right when you enter SORC and go down the hallway until you see the SGA logo). Maryland Equestrian Club Fall Fun Show! November 5th

We are happy to announce that this semester, the Maryland Equestrian Club's Fall Fun Show will be happening on Saturday, November 5th from 10 am to 3:30 pm!

This year, we are opening this event to the public for everyone to come to join in the fall fun! The Fall Fun Show will be a day of fall festival activities, including a burlap sack race, pumpkin painting, horseshoe tossing, mummy wrapping competition, and much more along with a concession stand with all your fall favorites like apple cider and hot chocolate! We will also have some entertaining competitions and demonstrations ongoing with our riders for you all to watch and, in some cases, judge, like our costume contest! If are looking for a fun break outside and want the opportunity to meet our horses, please share the following flyer with your friends and family to help us get a high attendance for our first public event!
