Office of International Affairs Focus Group for Global Connections Day

In keeping with President Pines' vision that Terps must connect globally to address the Grand Challenges of our times, the Office of International Affairs plans to sponsor a "Global Connections Day" in Spring Term, '22. This event will in fact take place over several consecutive days, and help students at the University of Maryland to interact for 45-60 minutes either with other students at UMD who are from a different country, or with students at one of UMD's global partner institutions. These interactions will involve the sharing of views, feelings and experiences about issues facing us all today, globally, such as climate change, or inequality.

In order to generate maximum interest and participation in Global Connections Day, OIA is organizing a series of small focus groups (6 - 8 students), where students can provide input on how they think this event would best be organized, what topics might be included, what types of activities would be most engaging, etc. If you would be interested in participating in one of these discussions, please visit https://forms.gle/EgnnBmBLozRa5svi7. Apply for the AGNR Dean’s Student Advisory Council (DSAC)

The Dean’s Student Advisory Council (DSAC) for the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (AGNR) has now released its application for the Fall 2021 semester! DSAC is a professional organization made up of student representatives from each of the departments in AGNR. Student representatives work throughout the semester to engage with students, faculty, and staff in discussions about academics, programs, resources, and more related to our college. Join the SGA Academic Affairs Committee

The UMD SGA Academic Affairs Committee is committed to ensuring that the educational experience is accessible, equitable, and impactful for all undergraduate students. Given our transition back to in-person classes, the work in this committee is crucial to implementing necessary changes as we move forward, while reflecting on the past 1.5 years of virtual education. Key issues that are being discussed include: improvements to lecture accessibility, implementation of a Sustainability General Education requirement, expansion of ASL courses, textbook affordability, and so much more.

As the semester comes to a close, the AGNR Dean’s Student Advisory Council (DSAC) and AGNR Student Council would like to celebrate the accomplishments of our academic advisors, staff, faculty, TAs, and student researchers over this academic year. To do that, we need your help!

Whether it’s an email or a quick message in the class chat, we hope that you will find creative ways to show your appreciation to your staff and faculty. DSAC will be posting teacher shoutouts on their Instagram account all next week in celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week. "Hello fellow AGNR students! I'm Sophia Mense- your student senator.

Our dedicated community in AGNR is focused on the most pressing issues in the world: eliminating hunger, preserving natural resources and improving quality of life. As one of the smaller, but incredibly diverse colleges in the University, it is even more pressing that we have a voice that speaks for our preparation to identify and solve real world problems.

At a time where we are all in similar stages of our academic careers, but facing different challenges navigating through a difficult year, a feeling of inclusion and connection may be lost.

I am reaching out to you and asking for your input to help myself, and the senate at large, better understand your experiences and expectations as a valued student in the college of AGNR so we can work towards change.
