ICF’s ICmyFuture in Consulting Career Exploration program is an opportunity for undergraduate talent to gain exposure to careers in Consulting – from Climate Change and Resiliency to Human, People & Human Services (HPHS), to developing technologies and operations. We invite current undergraduate students to apply to this exploratory program, where participants will have the opportunity to learn from our professionals. PROGRAM OVERVIEW 

Join students from a wide variety of backgrounds and participate in a program where students will gain exposure to career pathways in Consulting at ICF; including but not limited to Consulting, Technology, Sales and Marketing. 

 

This program will be hosted virtually on the evening of April 24^th from 6:00-7:30pm EST. Virtual program components include: 

• Expert Insights: A closer look at the Consulting industry
• Social Impact Panel: Learn how ICF is supporting associates, communities, and the environment 
• Line of Business Panel Discussion: Explore our work, internship and career options in Consulting, STEM, Strategy, Sales & Marketing at ICF

• Climate Center  
• Energy Advisory
• Health, People & Human Services
• Technology 
• Disaster Management

 

Successful participants will be able to add the program to their resume stating they were “selected to participate in ICF’s consulting career exploratory program…”. Participants will be invited to attend ICF's Summer Development Series, and will be extended a first look at our 2025 summer internships opportunities and entry-level roles for December 2024 and May 2025 graduates that will be posted during the fall. This is a great opportunity for students interested in learning about different careers in consulting.

 

ELIGIBILITY 

ICmyFuture is open to all majors and academic years. Students with backgrounds that are traditionally underrepresented in consulting and technology are encouraged to apply. This includes, but is not limited to, students who identify as female, BIPOC, LGBTQ+; students with disabilities; veterans; or those from socio-economically challenged backgrounds. All students enrolled in some college or undergraduate degree program are eligible to apply.

University System of Maryland Student Council Applications

 

This year the University of Maryland, College Park in addition to the other institutions in the University System of Maryland are invited to nominate one (1) candidate for this prestigious position to the University System of Maryland Student Council. Our nominee will then be reviewed by the System Student Council and their finalists are forwarded to the Chancellor and from his desk they are forwarded to the Governor. In the past, College Park has been represented by outstanding scholar leaders.

AGNR Cornerstone Event - Invitation to Submit Posters and Join Student Poster Competition

On October 12, we will celebrate our college’s 4th Annual Cornerstone event, themed around our strategic initiative of Optimize Urban Environments Through Design, Green Technology, and Community Engagement. 

Calls for poster submissions are now open from faculty, staff, and partners, etc. This is our collective opportunity to showcase the depth and myriad of research, Extension, and teaching being undertaken in the college. Our goal is to become the leader and first-rank resource for information and solutions to environmental and social urban sustainability problems.

Once again, we are featuring a student poster competition, a component of the program that has been very successful in years past. We hope that you will submit your posters for any research projects related to our theme of Optimizing Urban Environments and any of our Five AGNR Strategic Initiatives.

Important things to remember:

1. Poster size should be 4ft x 4ft [48in x 48in] or smaller
2. One submission only per Lead Student-Author [Faculty can submit more than one poster if they want to showcase more than one research or outreach topic.]
3. Bring poster and sign-in between 7:30-9:00AM on October 12 inside the Charles Carroll Room of Stamp Union. 
4. Students need to be present during the Poster Session [12:30-1:30PM] to explain their project and answer questions of the Judges.
5. Awards will be given at the closing session at 4:00PM. Students- Please be there!
6. Remove poster only after the Event ends at 6:00PM.  Please let someone know at the Poster-sign-in desk if you want us to keep your poster for you to collect later.

Posters will be judged based on the following criteria:

• Organization (Neatness, Clarity of Fonts, graphs, tables, text, etc.)  = 15 points
• Clarity of Hypothesis, Objectives, Goals, etc. = 15 points
• Overall Scientific Quality (Methods, Results, Conclusions, etc.) = 40 points
• Clarity of Oral Presentation = 30 points

Philadelphia Society for Promoting Agriculture Scholarship

This annual award is designed to recognize outstanding students majoring in Horticulture or related fields who have a clear intent upon graduation from an undergraduate university of either pursuing a career in one the many branches of horticulture including enhancement of the environment, or of attending graduate school in one of these areas.

Amount of Award: The award will be in the amount of $1,500 and paid direct to the two selected individuals by September 1st 2022.

Eligibility: This award shall be presented to a full-time student in horticulture in their Junior or Senior year, in good academic standing with a GPA of 3.0 or better. Applicants must either live in DE, MD, NJ, or PA or go to a school in one of those four states in the PSPA service area. Students must be interested in employment in the horticulture industry or in furthering their education in horticulture or related fields. (Previous scholarship winners are ineligible to apply)

Requirement: As part of the application process, a one-page essay must be submitted that focuses on how you envision impacting the industry through your employment or graduate work in horticulture. Sustainability Fund Workshop: Networking, Ideation, & Action Planning

This in-person workshop is for students interested in applying for a Sustainability Fund grant. During the interactive workshop, you will brainstorm and troubleshoot your grant proposal ideas to advance campus sustainability. This workshop will provide an opportunity to identify proposal topics, brainstorm ideas, learn and utilize the steps of Design Thinking, connect with potential grant collaborators, and devise an action plan for developing a strong Sustainability Fund grant application prior to the deadline. Students at all phases of the grant writing process are welcome to attend, though we recommend considering topics of interest ahead of time. The workshop will take place on Monday, April 25th from 6-8pm in ESJ 2101. Registration limited to the first 40 students who register. Please register here by Tuesday, April 19th.

Pitch Dingman 2022 Competition

Pitch Dingman Competition, the Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship’s signature annual Shark Tank-style competition, provides the university’s most talented student entrepreneurs the opportunity to compete for seed funding and exclusive access to venture development resources. This year, the Dingman Center is offering more prize money than ever before and three competition tracks for University of Maryland students to compete.

After two virtual years, Pitch Dingman Competition 2022 is back in person at Stamp Grand Ballroom. Watch live as the top University of Maryland student entrepreneurs pitch their businesses to a panel of expert judges for a chance to win a part of over $75,000 in seed funding. Undergraduate Student Hackathon

PLACEHack challenges undergraduate student teams to tackle a place-based problem in College Park—an underused space, a dangerous intersection, post-COVID dining spaces—and disrupt its course. At PLACEHack, unconventional ideas, teamwork and pizza converge to inspire great spaces@UMD.

Teams are given one challenge, 24 hours and copious snacks to create inspired and creative solutions for cash prizes. PLACEHack is open to all UMD undergraduates and teams must be interdisciplinary. Build your own team or get matched by PLACEHack!

COG’s Chesapeake Bay and Water Resources Policy Committee (CBPC) Paper Competition

The COG’s Chesapeake Bay and Water Resources Policy Committee (CBPC) Paper Competition is open to undergraduate and graduate students! The CBPC is a committee of elected officials and water utilities and their members are seeking to engage with researchers on the intersection of science and policy. A prize of $500 will be awarded to the top paper.

We encourage students to embrace this competition and submit a 5-page paper on a range of topics, including climate resiliency, sustainability, or diversity, equity and inclusion. An illustrative list of topics and details are in the link below. The idea is for students to be concisely present policy recommendations to address a water quality issue, and to have a chance to engage with elected officials. Students are asked to submit their topic of interest by 2/28 and papers are due in late April, so the submissions is fast approaching.

Premier Select Sires' Future Ag Leaders 2022 Scholarship

The Premier Future Ag Leaders Scholarship Program provides financial support to eligible college undergraduates in agricultural majors. The program provides additional return to the cooperative’s member-owners by supporting the next generation of young people desiring to study and work in the agriculture industry. The Premier Select Sires, Inc. board of directors has made a commitment to providing money to support this scholarship program on an ongoing annual basis.

Two exemplary students will receive $2,500 scholarships through either the Johnny Daniel Memorial Scholarship or the Wayne Dudley Scholarship. Several other students will receive scholarships of $750-$1,000 in value.

Eligible students include high school, seniors through college, and seniors presently enrolled or planning to enroll in an undergraduate agriculture-related major. The student or his/her parent or guardian must reside in the Premier membership area and must be an active Premier customer in good standing. Previous scholarship winners remain eligible during subsequent award years; however, a student can only receive a $2,500 scholarship once in his/her school career.

The deadline to apply for the 2022 Premier Future Ag Leaders Scholarship Program offered by Premier Select Sires is January 31, 2022. Premier will award up to $20,000 to students within the cooperative territory through this program, and students meeting the eligibility requirements below are encouraged to apply. Final Deadline 1/15 to Submit a Sustainability Fund Grant Proposal

If you have ideas on how to make our campus more sustainable, apply for a grant anywhere between $2,000 - $330,000 to help you launch your vision into reality! Any student, faculty, or staff at UMD can receive funding for initiatives and projects that benefit sustainability! Submit grant applications by the final deadline of January 15th, if you missed the priority deadline of October 15th. 

Apply for Agriculture Future of America (AFA) Institutes and Contest

Agriculture Future of America (AFA) is an organization committed to providing leadership and career development training for students pursuing a career in an agriculture-related field. Each year, AFA holds institutes tailored to students' interest to meet other students and industry professionals passionate about that sector of agriculture. This year the institutes are animal, crop, sustainability, technology, food, and policy. The institutes are typically a 3 day long conference in different locations ranging from Florida to California. The only cost the student is responsible for is airfare, everything else is covered. This is a wonderful opportunity to network and grow professionally and personally! Applications are due December 1st.

Those that submit their application and complete this google form by December 1st will be entered to win the following:

• First place will win: a $25 target gift card, an AGNR lanyard, an AFA baseball cap, and a reusable metal straw.
• Second place winner will win: An AFA phone wallet, an EOS chapstick, a key chain bottle opener, and CHS foundation travel mug.

AGNR Student Council x Rocky Point Creamery CrossTalk 11/18

On Thursday, November 18th at 7pm in PLSC 1140, AGNR Student Council will be hosting a CrossTalk event featuring Emily Snyder (c/o '13) from Rocky Point Creamery. This talk will consist of anything and everything dairy! Bring questions about cows, animal welfare, management, how ice cream is made, milk processing, how to run a business, or anything in between!

At this event, the winning flavor from the Ice Cream Flavor Feud contest will be served. Vote for the winning flavor on their Instagram stories (@agnr_studentc) from November 1st until November 5th!

PepsiCo pep+ Event - November 2 from 5-6pm

The following event, a collaboration between the Smith School of Business, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, and PepsiCo, is a deep-dive presentation and discussion on a new initiative by PepsiCo, Pep+, that aims to create growth and value by operating within planetary boundaries and inspiring positive change for the planet and people.

Positive agriculture, including regenerative practices, sustainably-sourced ingredients, and strengthened farmer livelihoods, is a key pillar of this initiative. You won't want to miss it! Details, including registration information, can be found below.

AGNR and Food Science Club Flavor Feud- Ice Cream Flavor Creation Contest!

Hello Fellow AGNR Terps!

We're excited to announce our exciting new program in partnership with the Food Science Club-- the ICE CREAM FLAVOR FEUD!

Submit ideas for an original. AGNR ice cream flavor, then vote for your favorites. The winning flavor will be produced by Rocky Point Creamery and served at the November 18th Cross Talk featuring AGNR Alumna, Emily Snyder, who is one of the owners of the creamery. See below for more details!

How do I submit a Flavor?
Visit go.umd.edu/flavorfeud by Friday, October 29th to submit your flavor idea. You can submit as an individual or as part of a team and multiple entries are allowed.

Are there any limitations on my flavor?
All flavors must indicate their base ice cream flavor and up to three "inclusions" maximum.
Popular Rocky Point ice cream bases include: vanilla, chocolate, coffee, mint, peanut butter, and sweet cream (Rocky Point milk mixed with cream!).
Inclusions are mixed in ingredients like candies (M&Ms, Reese's), nuts (almonds, peanuts), cookies (oreos, shortbread), or ripples (caramel, chocolate, peanut butter). Be creative as you're not limited to these examples, but know that if chosen, Rocky Point reserves the right to make substitutions in the final product if needed.

How will voting work?
After submissions are received, a tournament style bracket will be created and flavors will go head to head on the AGNR Student Council Instagram where yo
u can vote. Voting will take place the first week of November with the final winner being announced on November 5th.

What does the winning flavor get?
The winning flavor will be produced by Rocky Point Creamery and the limited batch will be brought to campus and served at the Ice Cream themed Cross Talk on November 18th. All guests will get to enjoy the delicious new flavor and who knows? If it's a hit, maybe it'll make the flavor board at Rocky Point Creamery!

What's a Cross Talk?
Cross Talks are gatherings where the AGNR and campus community can come together to learn and have a critical conversation at the intersection of food, agriculture and the environment. Cross Talks are loosely modeled after TEDx Salons to bring people together to engage, share, and learn.

Apply for the UMD Sustainability Fund Grant

Sustainability Fund Grants ($2,000 - $330,000 per award)
The University Sustainability Fund provides funding for projects that:

• improve the environmental performance of campus operations by decreasing greenhouse gas emissions, reducing energy and/or water use, enhancing stormwater management, increasing biodiversity, minimizing waste, etc.:
• improve or create opportunities for UMD students to learn about and develop skills for sustainability; and/or
• involve research that would create substantial opportunities for student involvement and the outcomes of the research have practical implications for improving the environmental performance of campus operations.

The Fund is supported by undergraduate student fees and administered through a student-majority committee of the University Sustainability Council. More than 156 projects have received more than $3.2 million in Sustainability Fund grants since 2011.

Approximately $330,000 is available each fiscal year.

Mini-Grants ($1 - $2,000 per award)
Sustainability Mini Grants are intended to provide small grants (up to $2,000) to encourage the development or maintenance of projects or programs that improve the sustainability of the UMD campus and/or enhance opportunities for students to learn about sustainability issues. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to apply. The SGA Sustainability Committee will review applications as they are received and applicants will receive a funding decision within 30 days of submitting a complete application. A total of $10,000 is available each semester. Projects requesting more than $2,000 must apply through the University Sustainability Fund.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis from September 1 to April 30 each year.

Who Can Apply for Funds?
Students, faculty, and staff of the University of Maryland community can apply for funds to support projects that will advance the sustainability of the College Park campus. Students who apply for funds can do so on behalf of a student organization or to fund their own projects, however, a student applicant must have a faculty or staff advisor for his/her project. Follow the guidelines on this website to submit your application.

Process
Project applications are reviewed by the Sustainability Fund Review Committee of the University of Maryland Sustainability Council. The Committee submits its recommendations to the full Sustainability Council, which decides which projects to fund.

It is highly recommended you contact the Office of Sustainability in advance of the proposal deadline to talk through your proposal before you submit it. Projects cannot be funded if they are not supported by essential stakeholders. For instance, you cannot propose to construct a green roof unless you have approval from the facilities group (Facilities Management, Residential Facilities, etc.) that manages that building.

AGNR 2021 Request for Grant Proposals- Maryland Food Systems

The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources has opened a request for proposals focusing on its Healthy Food Systems strategic initiative.

The goal of this funding program is to develop engaging lessons, teaching tools and promotional products about Maryland’s Food System. The target audience is middle and high school students in public priority schools. Relevant lesson themes may include, but are not limited to components for a sustainable local food system:

• Production 
• Processing
• Distribution
• Marketing
• Access 
• Consumption 
• Food waste...

Watermark Scholars Program Scholarship

Watermark is offering women in STEM scholarships for the fall 2021 academic term to provide much-needed support for college students pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)-related studies and careers. Two students will be selected from the pool of applicants, and awardees will each receive $5,000 to help continue their education.

To participate in the Watermark Scholars program, applicants are asked to submit either a written essay, up to 500 words, or a short video on the topic of “Who has inspired you to pursue a career in science or technology, and what do you want to achieve upon graduation?” We’re looking for students who have been inspired by recent events and changes in learning and want to make a difference in their careers!

The deadline to submit entries is July 15, 2021, and awardees will be notified in August. For more information and to apply, click here.

Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society applications are now available!
