Donate to the Maryland Equestrian Club this Giving Tuesday

As some may know, after years of wear and tear, a good amount of the Maryland Equestrian Club's tack and equipment are not in the best shape and could be replaced. Unfortunately, with the Covid-19 situation being a contributing factor, their budget isn’t able to cover all the things they need at the moment, such as new saddles and bridles. As a result, they would greatly appreciate it if you would consider donating to their equipment fund on the Launch platform, beginning on Giving Tuesday this November 30th!

Check out their Launch page! https://bit.ly/3nL8Cga

Why November 30th?
If they receive enough donors on Giving Tuesday, they may be eligible for additional funding!

Can I donate After Giving Tuesday?
Yes! Their campaign will run for about a month after November 30th, and any contributions would be incredibly helpful. Even just $10 would make a huge impact!

What can I do if I am unable to donate at this time?
Share their flyer! Tell family and friends! They know it can be difficult to donate as a college student or with other financial worries, but spreading the word can be another great way to help.

Their Story: Instagram
Keep an eye out for their Instagram @marylandequestrianclub in order to see how MEC has impacted its members throughout their UMD experience.

They appreciate you taking the time to read this, as this fundraiser will contribute directly to the safety and comfort of riding here at MEC!

UMD Graduate School Virtual Info Session 12/6

The School of Architecture, Planning & Preservation at the University of Maryland, College Park provides a nationally-recognized education that meshes applied learning, community engagement, professional mentorship, real-world opportunities, and supportive and diverse learning culture to ready students for sustainable and socially-minded practice.

This fall, they are holding virtual graduate school info sessions. They offer 19 different masters degrees designed to prepare students for careers in
  • historic preservation
  • architecture
  • real estate development
  • urban and community planning
The GRE is NOT REQUIRED for admission into most programs including the Masters of Architecture, Community Planning, Historic Preservation, and Real Estate Development. Their programs are open to all students from all academic disciplines.

Graduate School Information Sessions (virtual)
Monday, December 6, 2021 at 12:30pm-2:00pm

Why consider?:
  • There is no GRE requirement for 17 of the 19 programs.
  • Students can cut the cost of a Master's Degree.
UMD offers departmental and campus-wide graduate assistantships that enable students to cut down the cost of tuition for master's programs. The cost is determined by the program you are enrolled in, the number of credits you take per semester, and the number of hours you are required to work a week for that graduate assistantship. Students may also receive a stipend for the year on top of the tuition waiver depending on the assistantship.

Types of Graduate Assistantships:
  • 10 hour per week assistantship: The University pays for 5 credit hours per semester.
  • 20 hour per week assistantship: The University pays for 10 credit hours per semester.
Most graduate programs require 9-15 credits per semester if you are going full-time. Nine hours is considered full-time in graduate school. If you work 20 hours for a graduate assistantship, and your program requires 9 credits per semester, then your graduate assistantship is covering all of your tuition. You are still required to pay student fees each semester. If you work 20 hours a week in a graduate assistantship, and you take 12 credits per semester, then that assistantship covers 10 or your 12 credits. You are only paying for 2 credits out of pocket plus student fees.

Office of International Affairs Focus Group for Global Connections Day

In keeping with President Pines' vision that Terps must connect globally to address the Grand Challenges of our times, the Office of International Affairs plans to sponsor a "Global Connections Day" in Spring Term, '22. This event will in fact take place over several consecutive days, and help students at the University of Maryland to interact for 45-60 minutes either with other students at UMD who are from a different country, or with students at one of UMD's global partner institutions. These interactions will involve the sharing of views, feelings and experiences about issues facing us all today, globally, such as climate change, or inequality.

In order to generate maximum interest and participation in Global Connections Day, OIA is organizing a series of small focus groups (6 - 8 students), where students can provide input on how they think this event would best be organized, what topics might be included, what types of activities would be most engaging, etc. If you would be interested in participating in one of these discussions, please visit https://forms.gle/EgnnBmBLozRa5svi7. If you have any questions about these focus group sessions, feel free to email international-info@umd.edu. We very much appreciate your willingness to participate in these formative conversations!
