University of Maryland Scholars Summer Research - School of Medicine
Exciting summer research opportunity at the University of Maryland School of Medicine for sophomores and juniors in science, technology, engineering and mathematics study fields. Program includes 9 weeks of biomedical research mentored by faculty at the School of Medicine and enrichment experiences throughout the summer. Stipends included. The University of Maryland Scholars Summer Research (UM Scholars) Program at the School of
Medicine provides an enriching summer experience for University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP)
undergraduate sophomores and juniors interested in summer research opportunities at the University of
Maryland School of Medicine (UM SOM) at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) campus
located in Baltimore City. Those considering pursuing future MD, PhD, MD-MS or MD-PhD, or other
health profession degrees are highly recommended to consider this program.
Funded by the University of Maryland Strategic Partnership: MPowering the State (MPower), the UM
Scholars Program at the School of Medicine is an intensive summer biomedical research program for
UMCP undergraduates majoring in science, engineering, and mathematics fields and interested in
biomedical research, medical, and health professions. Applicants undergo a competitive selection process for the program and once selected, are matched with faculty researchers who have leading-edge
biomedical and medical research projects. The Scholars will conduct intensive research and immerse in
enrichment experiences for 9 weeks at the School of Medicine during the summer.
Program Highlights
• The Scholars engage in clinical, basic and translational research under the mentorship of
renowned scientists and physician scientists.
• The Scholars interact with physicians, scientists, physician-scientists, medical and graduate
students, postdoctoral fellows and clinical residents throughout the summer both ad hoc and
during program events.
• The Scholars attend a series of seminars through which they learn about the cutting-edge
research conducted by UMB faculty as well as the life-journeys of the highly accomplished
faculty speakers.
• The Scholars interact with other nationally-recruited undergraduate students who are being
mentored in programs covering specialty research fields such as cancer. The Scholars also
interact with medical and graduate students.
• During the Mid-Summer Research Retreat, the Scholars interact in small-group settings with
knowledgeable experts including medical school admissions deans, graduate program directors,
research scientists, academic physicians, and NIH program directors who share their advice and
insights.
• The Scholars present their research work alongside medical students and other undergraduate
students in the Student Research Forum in oral and poster formats at the end of the summer.
• Alumni Scholars have ascended to medical, dentistry, and graduate schools.

Sustainable Ocean Alliance Executive Board Application!
If you're interested in sustainability and environmental stewardship, then apply to be on the Sustainable Ocean Alliance's executive board! It's super fun, not too challenging, and a great way to get more involved in sustainability on campus!
This application will be open until Thursday, November 17th by 11:59PM. You may run for multiple positions, but you will only be elected into one position. All positions are one semester long.Join the SGA Sustainability Committee!
The SGA Sustainability Committee is a student group that aims to be the sustainability voice for all students on campus. We pass bills and hold events to educate the campus community, to push the university administration, and to advocate for meaningful climate and environmental action on local and state levels. Last year, we encouraged President Pines’ decision to commit to making our on campus power plant fossil fuel free by 2035, influenced the University to pause development on Guilford Woods, provided testimony to the Prince George’s County CAP, testified on MGA bills, established a stipend program for people in sustainability internships and so much more!
This year, some of our current work includes planning to replace current UMD shuttles with electric buses, running environmental justice events, launching a Sustainability Conference, organizing clothing swaps on campus, mapping potential sites for solar panels on campus. Our projects are all student-proposed and driven! Come join us to get involved in these projects or to start your own project, all majors are wanted! We're also a social group! In past years, we've done day hikes and game nights. We also run a mini-grant program, where members of our committee analyze grant requests for up to $2,000. Mini-grant participants get experience critiquing, assessing, and evaluating student, staff, and faculty proposed sustainability projects. We meet on Thursdays at 7:00pm in the SGA Office (in the Student Organization Resource Center (SORC) in the STAMP Student Union - take a right when you enter SORC and go down the hallway until you see the SGA logo). We are happy to announce that this semester, the Maryland Equestrian Club's Fall Fun Show will be happening on Saturday, November 5th from 10 am to 3:30 pm!
This year, we are opening this event to the public for everyone to come to join in the fall fun! The Fall Fun Show will be a day of fall festival activities, including a burlap sack race, pumpkin painting, horseshoe tossing, mummy wrapping competition, and much more along with a concession stand with all your fall favorites like apple cider and hot chocolate! We will also have some entertaining competitions and demonstrations ongoing with our riders for you all to watch and, in some cases, judge, like our costume contest!
If are looking for a fun break outside and want the opportunity to meet our horses, please share the following flyer with your friends and family to help us get a high attendance for our first public event!

Every year, MAAGCS awards scholarships to very deserving students and we are looking forward to helping out more exemplary students this year. MAAGCS Scholarship
1. Applicant must have completed at least 1 year as an employee of a Mid-Atlantic Association of Golf Course Superintendents (MAAGCS) member.
2. Applicant must be enrolled in at least one class in a turfgrass management curriculum. Note: Online turf programs are also eligible.
3. In order for the applicant to be considered for the scholarship, he/she must completely fill out the application form, satisfying all of the REQUIREMENTS as described below.

Transcripts from all institutions attended in the last 5 years must be submitted with application
Applicant must secure a RECOMMENDATION FROM A SUPERINTENDENT that he/she has worked under OR a college ADVISOR from his/her particular college.

5. All applications must be completed, submitted, and emailed or postmarked no later than November 4, 2022.
6. Finalists may be interviewed by the MAAGCS Education Committee via phone. Scholarship recipients will be asked to attend the MAAGCS Annual Meeting.

Students or a parent/guardian must be a member of the NCGA. Past scholarship winners and employees and the families of employees of any division of BASF or their subsidiaries or the NCGA are not eligible for the scholarship.
The scholarship application deadline is Tuesday, January 31, 2023.
In addition to these programs offered at a national level, many State Corn Associations also offer scholarship opportunities to students from their state.

APHIS Career Experience Program
APHIS' Career Experience (ACE) Program aims to attract the best and brightest college talent into various disciplines within APHIS. Students who intern with APHIS will be hired as part of a cohort. This cohort will support your development and offer you various engagement and development opportunities throughout your experience. These can include group assignments, learning events, meetings, webinars, or other activities designed to enhance your professional growth and skill levels throughout the duration of the program.
A few things to keep in mind — you must:
- Have completed at least 60 credits (This is a qualifier for the GS-4 level.)
- Work at least 16 hours per week during the school year (The exact schedule is negotiable depending on the student’s academic schedule.)
The search for ACE interns will pull from many disciplines to support scientific, administrative, and other professional careers. The official announcement will be posted on USAJobs.gov in the next few days and will contain more specifics. Interested students should visit USAJobs.gov and create their profile today, and then set up a search for APHIS Pathways opportunities.
