The Ridgewood Country Club Interns

The Ridgewood Country Club is seeking student interns for the 2024 golf season. We are a 27-hole A.W. Tillinghast designed club located in northeast New Jersey, just twenty minutes from New York City. The golf course is set on two hundred and forty-five acres, has a thirty-eight-person maintenance staff and will have an operating budget of $3,800,000 in 2024. We have hosted several national professional tournaments including the Ryder Cup and Fed Ex Cup events and are ranked as one of the top 100 courses in the United States. In 2022, RCC hosted its second U.S. Amateur, won by Sam Bennett.

 

While interning at RCC, the student will have the opportunity to share their experiences with six other people who are devoted to golf course management. Beside myself, we have four assistant superintendents and two student interns. There will be regular turf discussions, seminars, field trips to various industry sites in the Met area and tournament volunteer opportunities.

 

We have a long history of hiring our assistants from our intern pool and each student will be evaluated for such a position and possibly offered a job at the end of their stay.

 

We are looking for students who could work through at least early to mid-August. Any student wishing to take off a semester and experience the maintenance process from the first day of spring cleanup, through the summer and even later, would certainly be encouraged to do so.

AGNR Cornerstone Event- Join us on October 24th!

Students -  an early agenda and registration are now available for AGNR’s 5th annual Cornerstone event. This year's Cornerstone celebration is scheduled for Tuesday, October 24 from 8:30 am - 5 pm, and will celebrate and build partnerships around the college’s strategic initiative: Advance Innovative, Profitable, and Sustainable Agricultural Production Systems. 

We will feature Randy Day, recently retired CEO of Perdue Farms, as our keynote speaker. Randy worked with Perdue for more than 40 years, and he possesses a unique understanding of and perspective on agribusiness and food production here in Maryland and beyond. 

AGNR is driven by its five strategic initiatives, and this is an excellent opportunity to gain a better understanding of the impact we are making in the agricultural production arena across research, academics, and Extension.

Aside from experiencing Randy's talk, you will have access to a number of concurrent sessions focused on progress and profitability, urban agriculture and small and beginning farmers, protecting the Chesapeake Bay, international agriculture, and more. Additionally, we will offer free parking, a catered lunch, a poster competition featuring the brilliant work of our students, and a social hour to mingle with friends and colleagues.

AACACC Volunteer

AACACC is looking for volunteers to help our fulltime veterinarian in our clinic during surgery days. We are reaching out to your program to see if any students would be interested in doing an externship at AACACC (411 Maxwell Frye Rd., Millersville, MD). Their tasks would include cleaning instruments, wrapping packs, prepping animals for surgery and overseeing their recovery.  Surgery days are typically Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8 am - 2 pm, although there are some Monday and Friday surgery days as well. We are flexible about the hours the students volunteer during that time frame, but we do ask that they commit to at least one day a week.

Orchid Exhibit Internship Smithsonian Museum

This opportunity provides an intern with experience managing and caring for the Smithsonian Gardens Orchid Collection (SGOC), including exhibition, public programming, social media management, daily collection care, collections management, and interior plant maintenance.

The project’s primary focus will involve grooming and staking collection items for weekly exhibition delivery/installation, plant health monitoring, pulling/generating display labels, public programming, and assisting with creating social media content for a broad audience. The secondary focus will involve watering/fertilizing, repotting, and assisting with integrated pest management scouting and beneficial insect releases. Some public programs may occur on the weekend, which may cause some weekly schedule adjustments.

This internship offers hands-on experience working with living plant collections within a public garden and museum setting. The intern will work under the supervision of the Lead Orchid Collection Horticulturist and the Manager of Greenhouse Nursery Operations. Interns are encouraged to take advantage of the abundant resources of the Smithsonian Institution.

Application Deadline: October 15, 2023.  The internship will begin in January/February 2024.

Join us on a Career Shuttle to Eurofins! This will be an in-person event; we will travel together by bus to the Eurofins campus in Easton, MD. 

Eurofins is a contract research site with labs addressing analytical chemistry, aquatic ecotoxicology, terrestrial ecotoxicology, environmental fate, and product chemistry. Learn more on their website!

Organic Farmers Association Internship

The Organic Farmers Association (OFA) has launched a new pilot project, the Organic Career Network, a partnership between organic organizations that are committed to creating opportunities for students to explore careers in the organic movement through paid internships.

National Park Service Internship Opportunities

The University of Maryland has a partnership with the National Park Service to provide paid internships for UMD students. We have one new paid internship position available for the upcoming academic year. Interns will work closely with the NPS Urban Ecology Research Learning Alliance’s Science Education Coordinator. Students must be enrolled in a degree program at the University of Maryland. We were hoping that you could share this with your students.
