Sign Up for Ag Day Livestock Show

You're invited to participate in this year’s Ag Day (Maryland Day) livestock show on April 27th. The livestock show will consist of four separate beef cattle, dairy cattle, swine and lamb shows, with a multi-species, Grand Champion round at the end of all four classes. Students will be taught how to work with their selected species and will gain first-hand experience showing their animals in preparation for Block & Bridle's Annual Livestock Show occurring at the Campus Farm on Ag Day.  There will be appointed student and faculty coaches to help showmen learn the skills they need to successfully prepare and present their animal(s) during the show. Sign-ups for showing have begun as of today, and will end February. Mandatory orientation sessions will be held towards the end of February in order to go over safety protocol and standards with the Campus Farm manager (you only must attend one) . There will also be an informational session with a full, detailed rundown of the livestock show and the opportunity to ask questions face-to-face at 6 pm Wednesday, February 13, 2019 in ANSC 0412.

Requirements and expectations of showmen can be seen in the Showman Guidelines document attached. Sign up as soon as possible to guarantee your spot! In the potential event of limited species availability, students enrolled in Lamb Watch will receive priority in lamb showmanship, with the rest of the slots filled on a rolling basis.
Please note that in order to show beef, you MUST have previous showing and/or handling experience with cattle and/or have shown in our dairy class in previous years during Ag Day.

If you sign up for lambs, students enrolled in Lamb Watch will have the first pick of selecting their show animal. Other livestock showmen will select on a first-come, first-serve basis.

As mentioned before, this is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience working with livestock. Special note to Pre-vet students, this is an excellent way to introduce large animal experience to your undergraduate career if you have not begun to do so already.  I hope you will join us! Please forward and questions to umdblockandbridleagday@gmail.com.  If you would like to show you must fill out the Google Form (link below) by Friday, February 19th, 2019.  Showing fees will be due the day of orientation. Prices are listed in the Showman Guidelines document below.
