The U.S. National Park Service (NPS) National Capital Region (NCR), Office of Natural Resources and Science (NRS) is seeking to a paid internship position. The intern will work closely with the NPS Urban Ecology Research Learning Alliance’s Science Education Coordinator.

Well you’re in luck, because AGNR is searching for some new Ambassadors to join our team!
Ambassadors are current AGNR students who are selected to represent the College to the community and are selected on the basis of leadership, scholarship, and desire to promote AGNR to prospective students. This is a volunteer position. Minimum qualifications to becomean Ambassador include:
- Full-time student status at UMD College Park in an AGNR major
- At least a cumulative GPA of 2.75
- Sophomore status, or completion of at least 2 semesters in an AGNR major
- Commitment of 5-10 hours each semester for at least 1 full academic year to the AGNR Ambassadors
- A general understanding of the college admissions and applications process.

Apply today to be an AGNR Peer Mentor! We are looking for students like you from our diverse academic programs in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources to join our group!
Responsibilities: The main responsibility of AGNR Peer Mentors is to assist AGNR undergraduate students with everyday campus issues, such as advising, registration, and more. During office hours, you will have walk-in appointments with students in the college. You will help them become familiar with registration procedures (Testudo), assist them with preparation of their 4-year academic plan, and explain their progress toward degree benchmarks. You will work with students in subsequent semesters to pre-select courses and build tentative schedules, print academic audits, and otherwise prepare for their regular faculty advising appointments. You may be asked to refer students to various campus services (e.g. Learning Assistance, Career Center, or tutoring services). Peer Mentors will assist the AGNR Academic Programs Office with other tasks associated with student services and support, such as answering phones, filing records and assisting individuals who walk into the main office. Peer Mentors may also serve as teaching assistants for UNIV100 during the fall semester.
Qualifications:
a) 45- 65 cumulative credits (excluding AP) with at least 2 semesters enrolled in an AGNR major
b) GPA of 3.0 or higher and c) enrolled as a full-time student in AGNR. Additionally, we seek applicants who are "engaged" in one or more other aspects of university life; (study abroad, research, internships, organizations, sports) we want students who know how to manage time and make the best of all that UMD has to offer!
Compensation: You will be paid for 4 hours/week each term. You will also find this experience immensely satisfying as you help new students find their way in our large university. You will establish new relationships with both students and faculty/administrators in the college (good source of reference letters when you are ready to apply for graduate school, professional school, or that first job). As a Peer Mentor and UNIV100 TA (if you choose to participate in this experience) you will develop leadership skills as you contribute to the building of a course syllabus and participate actively in the teaching program. The service will stand out on your resume.
Date Available: The position begins August 26, with a training session approximately 1 week prior.

Baltimore Conservation Leadership Corps Crew Leader Position
Civic Works strengthens Baltimore’s communities through education, skills development, and community service and hosts Baltimore Conservation Leadership Corps (BCLC), a five-week summer program that provides Baltimore City high school students the opportunity to develop job skills, remain physically active, and learn more about the environment through a variety of conservation projects. BCLC members work throughout the city doing trail maintenance on hiking trails in city parks, turning vacant lots into green spaces, and learning about farming at Real Food Farm.
Position Summary:

- Develop infographics to represent the County’s sustainability goals and progress achieved.
- Assist with the production of promotional and educational posters, pamphlets, PowerPoint presentations, and other media to communicate about County sustainable operations.
- Interview County staff and write brief pieces on their contributions to sustainable County operations for the website, social media, and department newsletter.
- Take photographs of a wide variety of sustainable operations within the County, including solar panel installations, green roofs, rain gardens, electric vehicles, sustainable purchasing, etc.
- Document events, conferences, and other activities with photographs and video.
- Research and compile tips, resources, and tools for sustainable that the Office of Energy and Sustainability can use for social media posts.
- Perform administrative tasks as needs arise, such as organizing electronic photo files and proofreading website text.
The ideal candidate would be a college or graduate student or recent graduate who is studying communications, film, journalism, sustainability, environmental science, or a related field; has demonstrated graphic design skills; and has strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience with infographics, social media, and photography is a plus. Personal interest in and commitment to sustainable living is preferred.
For summer 25 hours per week are preferred. Careers in Environmental Health on April 23rd
Environmental
health focuses on the intersection of the natural and built environment and
human health. Through science research, policy, communication, and education,
environmental health professionals improve the lives of individuals and
communities. No matter what their field of focus, environmental health
professionals work to promote human health and solve environmental issues
including air and water quality, hazardous waste, and infectious diseases. In
this career panel, students will learn about career paths within environmental
health from employers and alumni, who are experts in their field. Students will
also have the opportunity to network with panelists and learn about potential
internship or job opportunities. Students from all majors are welcomed to
attend. Light refreshments will be served.

Syngenta Agricultural Scholarship
Continuing our commitment to the future of agriculture and the cultivation of tomorrow’s leaders, we annually award the Syngenta Agricultural Scholarship to university students currently pursuing bachelor’s or master’s degrees in crop-related disciplines. Eligible students compete for $20,000 in scholarship awards. Applicants must be U.S. residents enrolled in an accredited agriculture program at an eligible university.
Complete the online application form (see ”Apply Now” link here) by May 27, 2019. Within the application, you will be required to submit a 750- to 1,000-word essay in response to the following topic: Tell us how you will draw upon your unique experience of being #RootedinAg to inspire future generations of students in the agricultural field.
Bright Futures Unpaid Internship Scholarship
The Bright Futures Initiative awards students with need-based scholarships ranging from $100-$1,000 to help offset expenses incurred during unpaid internships with non-profit organizations and government agencies.

Eligible Candidates
All registered University of Maryland, College Park undergraduate students returning to campus for the fall 2019 semester, who have an internship for summer 2019, are eligible to apply. Graduating seniors (May 2019 & August 2019) are not eligible. Preference will be given to juniors and seniors graduating in December 2019 and to those who have not previously received an award. In order for a student's internship to qualify for funding support, it must satisfy the following criteria:
- Unpaid on-campus or off-campus internship with a non-profit organization or government agency
- Offered during the summer and completed by Friday, August 23, 2019
- Supervised by a professional in the organization
