2020 will be Good Dog Farm's first season with a full-time
farm crew, which is an exciting opportunity for anyone looking for first hand
experience in scaling up a farm operation. Because we are a small, relatively
new business, we need a team of folks who show up ready to move quickly and
efficiently to get the job done and who also enjoy working on a fun, inclusive
team. We are hiring three to four individuals with full- and part-time
positions available. At least one year’s experience is preferred but not
required for the right candidate. You will be working directly with us, so even
though we don’t offer internships at this time, we’re happy to answer any and
all questions while we work together! Primary weekly responsibilities will be
harvesting, washing and packing for our CSA program and farmer’s market. Other
tasks will include seeding, transplanting, hoeing, trellising, and hand
weeding.
Our workdays will typically be weekdays 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
with a 30 minute lunch break. Hours can be flexible for candidates interested
in working at our Saturday farmers market. Pay is highly competitive and based
on experience. We will meet after 60 days of working together to discuss how
the season is going and the possibility of a raise. You can also bring home
lots of delicious organic
vegetables!
Job Requirements:
- A desire and willingness to work outside (in the rain and the heat & cold too!)
- Reliable transportation to and from the farm
- Ability to lift 50 lbs repeatedly and easily, and work physically all day
- Ability to work well in teams
- A general can-do attitude and willingness to learn
- Generally feel comfortable around dogs
About Good Dog Farm
Good Dog Farm is a USDA certified organic vegetable farm in
Parkton, Maryland (about 40 minutes north of Baltimore.) We are Bryan Alexander
and Joanna Winkler - founders and co-owners of Good Dog Farm, and we are also
married to each other. We founded the farm in June of 2016 after many years of
farm management experience. We supply our customers in the Baltimore region
with delicious, nutritious, certified organic food of the highest quality. We
will be growing on about 10 acres on multiple sites in 2020 where we use
sustainable growing practices to protect our soil and waterways. Our farm
provides a diversity of crops for our Community Supported Agriculture program
and one farmer’s market, plus unique varieties of storage crops like potatoes,
winter squash and sweet potatoes for wholesale customers. Our name comes from
our shared love of our two dogs who remind us to live simply and have fun every
day.
