Want to get out of the lab and explore an exciting food safety career pathway in our nation’s capital?
Are you interested in a career at the crossroads between industry, government, and academia? Consider
applying for a summer internship at the United Fresh Produce Association, the national trade
association for the fresh produce industry, located three blocks from the White House.
Get a glimpse
into how federal food safety policy is developed, how foodborne illness outbreaks are handled, and how
science and education promote the implementation of risk-based preventive approaches by the
industry. Learn the unique role of a trade association and understand the varying backgrounds and skill
sets that influence food safety priorities and practices. Spend up to 8 weeks with our food safety team,
with a flexible starting date. The internship will be project-based, based on the association’s need with
some flexibility given dependent on the intern’s experience and interests.
The ideal candidate is a blend of the following:
- Undergraduate or graduate student in Food Science or a related field (Public Health, Agriculture, Food Law) with an interest in food safety
- Clear communicator
- Inquisitive problem solver and a passion for learning
- Creative and fact-driven
- Committed to excellence
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
