Maryland One for the World is looking for student ambassadors!
One for the World (OFTW) is a non-profit organization that uses a rigorous, data-driven approach to build a portfolio of the most effective charities in the world. They then encourage students and young professionals to pledge to donate 1% of their post-grad income to these selected charities in order to help end extreme poverty. OFTW has several collegiate chapters across the country ranging from UNC to Villanova to Harvard and we have started our very own at UMD! Our mission, and that of all collegiate chapters, is to educate our peers about the importance of effective giving and encourage them to take the pledge now.For more information on our organization, please fill out this interest form: https://ter.ps/interestOFTW.
They are currently seeking student ambassadors, who have to fulfill the following responsibilities within the chapter:
Things you should be able to do:
Their first external event is also approaching! On September 16th, they are presenting an Introduction to Effective Giving with the Malaria Consortium! The registration can be found here: https://ter.ps/1ftwmalaria.
- Recruit students on campus to take the 1% pledge
- Talk and raise awareness to friends, classmates, etc. about OFTW and effective altruism
- Attend OFTW events and trainings
- Generally be able to explain all the charities and be an expert in at least one (no prior knowledge is required)
Things you should be able to do:
- Respond appropriately to different people’s concerns
- Explain effective altruism and how it’s different from standard charitable giving
- Explain the charities OFTW supports and how they are chosen
- Identify the people receiving the help from these charities
