AFA Leader Institutes provide undergraduate college students specialized professional development opportunities they can't get from their college campuses.
AFA currently offers five Institute experiences and competitively selects students for each program. Every Institute provides professional development training and direct exposure to industry professionals and key environments within the given specialty sector.
Did you know?
Once selected to attend an Institute, the only cost to the student is travel. AFA and its partners cover hotel, meals and event material costs.
Applications for 2021 Institutes are available now. Apply by January 27th.
- The AFA Food Institute in Chicago explores careers within the food industry.
- The AFA Technology Institute follows the commodity classic and focuses on the agriculture technology sector.
- The AFA Policy Institute in Washington, D.C., focuses on the policy process.
- The AFA Animal Institute in Kansas City allows students to experience the Kansas City Animal Health Corridor.
- The AFA Crop Science Institute which is held in rotation locations allows students to experience the breadth of the crop science industry.
Institute Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible, students must meet the following criteria:
- Recommended 3.0 GPA or higher
- Undergraduate student status
- Age 17-25*
- Attending a four-year institution within the U.S. or articulate plans to obtain
four-year degree - Possess a passion for food and agriculture
- Plan to pursue a career in the food and agriculture industry
- Preference for selection will be given to new institute attendees
