Join UMD MANRRS

Welcome to a new and exciting academic year! The UMD Chapter of MANRRS is seeking undergraduate and graduate student members. MANRRS stands for Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences. MANRRS is a non-profit UMD recognized club to foster and promote the agricultural sciences and related fields (any major) positively among underrepresented students in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Agricultural Sciences and Mathematics) and other related fields. MANRRS IS FOR ALL STUDENTS and ALL MAJORS!!! 

MANRRS encourages members to engage professionally and become associated with the agricultural sciences and related STEM fields and are encouraged to be full participants in other professional societies for their basic disciplinary and career interests. MANRRS attempts to provide networks to support the professional development of underrepresented students. Below are some of the opportunities for our student members:

  • Engage with role models and professionals at networking opportunities in their field
  • Engage in student opportunities to enhance leadership, organizational and public speaking skills, and experience professional critique of scholarly work in a “user-friendly” environment
  • Serve as mentors to undergraduate and high school students.
  • Are eligible for USDA paid internship opportunities
  • Will attend the MANRRS Annual National Career and Training Conference in April 2022 in Atlanta, Georgia (all expenses paid!)
  • Network with employers to learn about career and internship opportunities
  • *Are eligible for the Ed Landa and Judith Johnson Scholarship  $10,000 Scholarship awarded annually to a MANRRS undergraduate student member
  • Graduate MANRRS members enrolled in the College of Agriculture, and Natural Resources may be considered for a paid summer graduate assistantship or summer teaching position working with high school and undergraduate summer programs in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (contact me for details)

We invite undergraduate and graduate students from all majors to participate-- in particularly students the following majors:  Plant Science, Landscape Architecture, Animal Sciences, Agricultural  Science and Technology, Agricultural and Resource Economics, *Environmental Science and Technology, *Ecological Technology Design,  *Ecosystem Health, *Soil and Watershed Science, and *Natural Resources Management, Environmental Science and Policy,  Environmental Health, Ecological Technology Design, Nutrition and Food Science, Dietetics, Entomology, Business, Chemistry, Biology, Geology, Physical Sciences, Engineering and Geographical Sciences.
