The National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) and VentureWell are challenging undergraduate student teams to develop innovative solutions to unmet health and clinical problems. Along with NIBIB, five NIH partners participating in the challenge include the NIH Office of AIDS Research (OAR), the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), and the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR).
In addition to prizes where there is no restriction on the health care technology being developed, five categorical prizes will be awarded for the following:
1) HIV/AIDS prevention and care, with funds from OAR;
2) Health care technologies for underrepresented populations and/or for low-resource settings, with funds from NIMHD;
3) Technologies for cancer prevention, diagnosis, or treatment, with funds NCI;
4) Rehabilitative and assistive technologies for the functional and health care needs of people with physical disabilities, with funds from NICHD; and
5) Technologies to empower nurses in community settings, with funds from NINR.

Judging Period: June 7, 2023, to August 28, 2023
Winners Announced: August 25, 2023
Award Ceremony: October 2023, at the Biomedical Engineering Society Conference, to be held in Seattle, Washington
