UMD Department of Entomology Paid Summer Internship

The UMD Department of Entomology applied ecology group is seeking some motivated undergraduates with an interest in field research and helping food insecure individuals to join our lab  for a summer paid internship position. Research prospects will include using fruit pomace, soil biosolarization, cover crops and flowering plants to enhance beneficial arthropods and suppress insect and weed pests, in hemp and different vegetable systems. Field tasks will consist also of planting vegetables for demo and study plots, plot maintenance, arthropod and plant surveys, produce harvesting and donating fresh produce to organizations that help feed food insecure community members.

A desire to work as part of a team and help the less fortunate are vital. Strong commitment to field work is also essential as the job entails outside manual activities during the summer months. Ideal candidates will have some interest in field research, the great outdoors and have a valid driver license. If you are interested in this opportunity and obtaining additional information, please send an email that is addressed to all of the following: Cerruti Hooks, Dwayne Joseph, Matt Dimock and Leo Kerner at crrhooks@umd.edudwaynej@umd.edumdimock@umd.edu and lmkerner@umd.edu.
