Plan Ahead for Your Fall 2023 NSF GRFP Application!

 Are you planning to apply to STEM or social/behavioral sciences PhD programs this Fall 2023? Or will you be a 1st year grad student in these fields in Fall 2023? 


The NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP) provides 3 years of full support for PhD studies, with an annual stipend of $37,000, in science, math, engineering, and social/behavioral science fieldsUS Citizens and Permanent Residents are eligible. You can visit the NSF informational website here


The UMD National Scholarships Office has an in-depth ELMS resource site for UMD NSF GRFP applicants, with recorded presentations (described below) and supporting materials to help you prepare a competitive application. Current UMD undergraduates at all levels, UMD alumni, and UMD grad students who will be in their 2nd years of PhD studies in Fall 2023 (and did not apply in Fall 2022) are invited to join our ELMS resource site.

Recorded NSF Info Session #1 - Introduction: This session will introduce you to the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship program: what it is, who it's for, application components, how it's judged, and how you can prepare to apply effectively - whether you're applying this fall or in a few years.


Recorded NSF Info Session #2 - Writing the Essays: This session will discuss the two required essays - an intellectual/personal statement, and a mini research proposal. We'll cover what information needs to be in the essays, as well as strategies for writing them in a timely and effective way.


Eligibility: You must be a US citizen or Permanent Resident to apply for the NSF graduate research fellowship. You must be applying to, or enrolled in your 1st or 2nd year of graduate studies in an NSF supported field in Fall 2023.
