The University of Maryland Department of Entomology is seeking some motivated undergraduates with an interest in Biological Control, Field Agro-ecology and helping food insecure individuals to join the applied ecology group for summer paid internship positions. Research prospects will include using fruit pomace, cover crops and flowering plants to manipulate beneficial arthropods and suppress insect and weed pests in vegetable systems. Work will consist also of research plot maintenance, weeding, arthropod and plant surveys, produce harvesting and donating fresh produce to organizations that help feed food insecure community members.
A desire to work as part of a team and help the less fortunate are vital. Strong commitment to field work is also essential as the job entails outside manual activities during the summer months. Ideal candidates will have some interest in field research, the great outdoors and have a valid driver license.
