For 2025, Maryland Grain Producers will be awarding two CDL Grants in the amount of $2,000 each and a $5,000 increase in scholarship awards! Maryland Grain Producers Association will be awarding three Honoree Scholarships for members studying agriculture in the amount of $3,000 each, two Membership Scholarships for members not studying agriculture at $2,000 each, and two Production Scholarships for non-members studying agriculture at $1,000 each. The additional $5,000 will be awarded to additional deserving applicants in any of those categories. Applications are reviewed by a panel of farmers with all identifying information redacted.

Intro:
Ladies in the Landscape (LIL) is a professional organization whose members are employed in the green industry. LIL also accepts postsecondary student members who are at least 18 years of age and taking college courses in the green industry.
Our Mission is to create a community of women / those who identify as female who work in the landscape and horticultural industries which provides support, collaboration, continued education, mentoring, and networking to empower our members’ personal and professional lives.
The LIL Scholarship has been created to support young women who are interested in pursuing a career in the horticultural industry (ranging from Integrated Pest Management (IPM), golf course management, and commercial distribution to retail business owners and landscape designers) by awarding $500 towards their higher education.

Length of Internship: 15 weeks, 240 hours total, during the fall semester (start and end dates flexible)
Intern Schedule: 2 set days per week, 8 hours per day, on variable schedule between 7am and 7pm
Internship Description: The selected student will work under a keeper in the Lion Tiger unit of the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington, DC. The intern will learn husbandry and management techniques for a wide variety of animals including lions, tigers, Andean bears, bobcats, prairie dogs, porcupines, maras, and domestic livestock. The intern will learn husbandry skills, including diet preparation, enclosure cleaning and maintenance, enrichment preparation, and behavioral observations. The intern will also gain public speaking skills by interpreting animal behaviors to visitors.
By the end of the semester, the intern will complete a poster and a paper with a focus on an animal husbandry procedure.
The intern will not have any direct contact with collection animals. The selected intern must be able to work in all types of weather, lift 50 pounds, follow all safety protocols, complete health screenings, and complete a background check.
Target Audience: This internship is designed to provide interns to explore careers in the zoo husbandry field. The internship is an entry-level program, and as such applicants with prior zoo experience may not find it very beneficial. Applicants interested in other aspects of the zoo field, including laboratory research or veterinary medicine, may not find this internship applicable. Students, recent graduates, or individuals in the workforce with little to no experience in a zoo setting are encouraged to apply. Current students will receive support to earn college credit for their time spent in the program.

This position requires traveling 2 to 3 days a week to attend agriculture-related events and meet
with farmers and service providers. We are looking for someone who thrives on networking and
enjoys relationship-building. This entry-level position will help you gain valuable experience in
sales, regardless of future industry. Although it is a starting role, we seek a proactive self-starter
who can work independently and doesn’t need constant supervision.
With us, you will meet influential Ag industry players, engage with hundreds of farmers, and
make a tangible difference. You will learn how to work with a team that is 100% remote. We
will provide a comprehensive suite of tools and systems to track your progress and determine
your performance against your targets. You will be responsible for recruiting and filling out our
center's programs and services available to farmers.
Employment Type: This is a contractor position, not salaried. A yearly contract is created with
an option for a second year based on the grant funding period.
Location: While the role is fully remote on a day-to-day basis, occasional in-person team
meetings will take place in Gaithersburg, MD
Pay Range: $40,000 – $47,000
Deliverables and Key Responsibilities Include:
• Attend industry events, including farmers markets, conferences, trade shows, community
gatherings, and farm visits on a weekly basis to represent CAIC. The objective is to
network, promote our programs, and generate new leads for our services.
• Enter data into a tracking spreadsheet and HubSpot CRM to keep track of all new leads
and potential clients. Continuously update both systems to ensure all leads are frequently
followed up with, and targets are met.
• Engage in calling and email outreach to prospective clients, including farmers, value-
added producers, aquaculture producers, and service providers. The goal is to articulate
the benefits of CAIC’s resources, training, and consulting and get them to register for our
programs.
• Review the tracking spreadsheet with the Operations Manager during a stand-up meeting
to plan and take coordinated actions for the day.
• Ensure that weekly, monthly, and quarterly registration goals are met to fill each program
and service to capacity.
• Provide our clients with a high-quality and engaging experience from initial awareness of
CAIC to registration in our programs.
• Collaborate with the administrative team providing images and video content for use on
social media. Utilize social media platforms to attract new leads for our programs.
• Actively post and promote on the AgriBiz Hub community a (lead acquisition tool).
• Lead and expand the CAIC Ambassador Program, also referred to as the CAIC Squad. A
group of volunteers who receive benefits from the center in exchange for promoting our
programs in their communities and growing the AgriBiz Hub community.
Required Qualifications:
• 2-3 years of personal experience in agriculture. Examples include family farm
involvement, formal agriculture education, or hands-on work at a farm.
• Proficiency with basic software and technology including MS Office Suite, Google
Drive, smartphones, etc.
• Access to a personal computer
• Proficiency with data management systems (preferably Hubspot)
• Dependable and resilient self-starter with an interest in taking on new challenges and
overcoming obstacles with little supervision.
• Demonstrated ability in networking, customer service, and sales.
• Good listening, verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to present information clearly and concisely to farmers
• Own a reliable vehicle to travel 2-3 times every week in Maryland, Delaware, Virginia
and DC.
