Summer Climate Internship (Hybrid)

About the Internship

Montgomery County, Maryland, is at the forefront of local climate action. Through its Climate Action Plan and commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions 100% by 2035, the County is implementing innovative policies and programs to reduce emissions, build resilience, and promote environmental justice.

The Montgomery County Executive’s Office is seeking Summer Climate Interns to support this work. Interns will gain hands-on experience with local government climate efforts, including policy research, program support, and a strong focus on communications and community outreach. Interns will be on-boarded and paid through a temporary services agency and will be detailed to the County for the internship duration.

Position Details

  • Location: hybrid, with 1-2 days a week in office at 101 Monroe St. Rockville, MD and 2-3 days remote
  • Duration: 7 weeks, June 16, 2025 – August 1, 2025
  • Hours: 20–40 hours, schedule set during onboarding
  • Compensation: $17.60 per hour
  • Eligibility: Open to current college or graduate students; Montgomery County residents preferred

Interns will support a variety of projects, with a focus on:

  • Climate Communications and Outreach: Creating content for the County’s climate newsletter, social media, and public website; helping design outreach materials and messaging strategies; supporting public events and workshops
  • Policy Research and Program Support: Analyzing best practices, tracking local initiatives, assisting with briefings and memos for County staff
  • Equity-Centered Engagement: Contributing to the County’s efforts to advance racial equity and environmental justice through its climate solutions
