State 4-H Equine and Environmental Science Coordinator

Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

This is a full-time position that will work alongside the 4-H Youth Development Specialists with the coordination, delivery, and evaluation of educational seminars, as well as train volunteers to conduct workshops for youth focusing on environmental science and equine science

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate state-level competitive events, fundraising events, and activities for Environmental Science (ex, Shooting Sports) and Equine Science. (Approximately 15 major events annually).
  • Coordinate state 4-H team selection and travel to regional/national contests for Shooting Sports and Equine teams.
  • Work with Youth Development Specialists on the coordination of educational seminars and train volunteers to conduct workshops and seminars for youth & adults, focusing on environmental science and equine science
  • Work with the Youth Development Specialist on the development and coordination of the State 4-H Horse Advisory and State 4-H Shooting Sports committees.
  • Promote and market the 4-H youth development program to the community, using press releases, newsletters, Maryland 4-H website, Maryland 4-H accounts on social media platforms, and other media, as appropriate.
  • Develop grant-funded projects to enhance the 4-H Youth Development environmental and equine programs.
  • Attend and support State-level 4-H events (team retreats, state retreat, Maryland State Fair, Maryland Day, etc).
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in youth development, education, animal science, environmental science, or a related field.
  • One (1) year of professional administrative or coordinator experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management abilities.
  • Evidence of experience in event management and coordination
  • Experience working with volunteers and broad audiences of all socio-economic levels.
  • Evidence of excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge and use of computer technology for educational programming and management.
  • Personal transportation and a valid driver’s license for travel within the state.
  • Flexible working hours required; must be available for evening and weekend programs and meetings.
  • This position is subject to a Criminal History Record Check and University of Maryland Background check. Employment is contingent upon successful completion and clearance of the Criminal History Record Check.
