About Casey Trees
In pursuit of its mission to restore, enhance and protect the tree canopy of the nation’s capital, Casey Trees (CT) delivers a broad base of programs and services to the DC Metro area. The organization plants more than 7,000 trees each year grown at our own nursery; cares and maintains those trees; conserves greenspace; conducts school and community-based youth STEM programming; and advocates for stronger policies and laws to preserve trees across the area. Casey Trees emphasizes innovative solutions and working with diverse partners to advance and promote tree canopy solutions that meet the needs of the communities that we serve.
Summary
The GIS Intern connects people to trees using maps and data. The incumbent supports the Tree Operations department on a range of initiatives from grant reporting to administrative functions.
Essential Functions
- Coordinates with members of the Tree Operations Department to deliver mapping products in a timely and accurate manner
- Collaborates with GIS Manager and external partners to prepare, collect and analyze tree inventory and survival data
- Works in a team environment to produce, maintain and share geospatial data
- Assists GIS Manager with administrative tasks in preparation for and reconciliation of tree installations
- Performs maintenance updates on annually published public-facing maps and other cartographic resources
- Assists with grant reporting in Tree Operations department by creating appropriate queries and report data from GIS database to GIS Manager and Tree Operations Director
- Assists with preparation and execution of maintenance maps
- Assists with field work on an as-needed basis
- Connects people to trees
- Other duties as assigned
