PGMS DC Branch Scholarship Application

 The mission of the Professional Grounds Management Society, D.C. Branch, is to foster integrity and excellence in grounds management by promoting professional development through education programs, networking, community service, and fellowship. As part of this effort, the D.C. Branch offers a scholarship to those interested in pursuing higher education in a horticulturally-related field.


Offered annually, our scholarship provides financial aid to students currently studying landscape and grounds management, arboriculture, turf management, irrigation technology, or a closely related field.


Many of our past scholarship winners have gone on to be leaders in our industry and we encourage our members to sponsor a student's application.


At least one scholarship of $1500 will be awarded. Other scholarship awards are at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee 


The top recipient will receive complimentary student membership to PGMS for one year and have the opportunity to attend the Green Industry Seminar and the Green Industry Field Day. PGMS will pay for the scholarship recipients’ seminar and field day registration.

GEOSCIENTISTS IN FORESTS PROGRAM:

The USDA Forest Service Washington Office Lands, Minerals and Geology (WO-LMG) in partnership with the Conservation Legacy is pleased to announce the 2026 Geoscientists in Forests (GSF) Program offering paid professional development opportunities to emerging geoscientists that leverage Agency capacity to conduct critical geologic work in alignment with the administration’s priorities (see Executive Orders and Secretarial Memos listed below).

The GSF Program specializes in individual placements that address geoscience-related needs and management priorities. The program is designed for individuals aged 18-30, and veterans up to age 35. Projects involve predominantly field-oriented research, inventory and monitoring, and geoscience interpretation for agency staff and the public. GSF programs support Forest Service responsibilities under Executive Orders on American energy (EOs 14154, 14156, 14241), Secretarial Memo 1078-005, and the Public Land Corps Act’s workforce development focus.  

The primary purposes of the Geoscientists in Forests Program are to:

                  Address critical geoscience needs on National Forest System lands;

                  Foster geoscience career growth to support mineral and energy development in alignment with the administration’s priorities;

                  Provide on-the-ground geoscience training and immersive paid developmental experience for emerging geoscience professionals under Forest Service mentorship

Remote Internship: Organic Farmers Association

 The Organic Farmers Association (OFA) is seeking a dynamic and motivated Communications Intern to join our team remotely for an average of 10-15 hours per week for 10 weeks during January-March 2026. This opportunity is designed to support students interested in exploring career pathways in the organic industry through paid internships. OFA is seeking undergraduate or graduate students with majors in Communications, Marketing, Advertising, Media Studies, or related fields. This internship offers an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in nonprofit or agriculture communications and contributing to meaningful projects.


Internship Type: Remote
Start Date: Week of February 1, 2026
Eligibility: Open to current undergraduate or graduate students and individuals ages 18–24, regardless of enrollment status
Preferred Majors: Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Advertising, Media
Studies, Public Relations, Agricultural Communications, or related fields

Compensation & Qualifications: Compensation is $15 per hour for undergraduate interns and $18 for graduate interns, not to exceed a total of $2,250/undergraduate or $2,700/graduate per semester. Summer Season Environmental Education Intern

Dates: May 11th - August 7th

Job Status: Seasonal Intern, 24 hours per week

Compensation: $1,870 stipend, qualifies for credit at the university level


Fall Season Environmental Education Intern

Dates: August 18th - October 30th

Job Status: Seasonal Intern, 15 hours per week

Compensation: Qualifies for credit at the university level, includes $400 upon completion and a weekly share of veggies from the farm


Summer Camp Educator

Required in person training: May 22nd 8:00-12:00 pm, May 25th - 29th, 8am-4pm. ($720 stipend) 

Summer Camp Schedule: Summer Camp is weekly June 1st - August 7th. (9 weeks total) There is no Summer Camp the week of June 29th - July 3rd. Staff will not work this week and are able to travel

Job Status: Full Time, Seasonal Summer Employee, Average 40 hours per week

Compensation: $800 per week of summer camps; training weeks will be prorated to reflect days worked.

Entomology Undergrad Research Tech

Position description: The Krishnan Lab in the Entomology department at the University of Maryland, College Park, is seeking one undergraduate research technician. The position will start earliest in Spring 2026. The undergraduate student will help set up insect and plant colonies, maintain them, record data, and assist graduate students with experiments. Most work will be undertaken in the lab and greenhouse, with minimal field work. The position could require working on some weekends/holidays. 


Primary responsibilities:

1.Setting up and maintaining butterfly colonies.

2.Setting up and maintaining plants in the greenhouse.

3.Noting down observations in the lab and greenhouse and taking photos/videos.

4.Entering data into spreadsheets.
