MANO Fellowship and Internship Program

Chesapeake Conservation Corps

Looking to launch your career in the environmental field? Young professionals can gain vital green jobs skills and build a network of connections in the environmental field through the Chesapeake Conservation Corps program. This one-year term of paid service places young adults (ages 18-25) with nonprofits or government agencies to work full-time in the environmental field in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Throughout the year this program provides hands-on professional and leadership experience through on-the-ground work leading and assisting environmental projects and programs, extensive trainings, and other opportunities including networking and grant writing. This initiative is supported by the Trust, BGE an Exelon Company, the U.S. National Park Service and the state of Maryland.
The purpose of the Corps Program is 1) to enable young adults to work with organizations and communities on issues impacting the Chesapeake Bay, and 2) to better prepare young adults pursuing careers in the environmental field.  Corps Members will work on projects and programs that fall into at least one of six categories (environmental restoration, community engagement, environmental education, energy conservation, sustainable agriculture or forestry), gain career and leadership skills, and become more engaged through meaningful community service.

The Chesapeake Bay Trust anticipates placing around 35-40 Corps Members, young adults 18-25, with nonprofit organizations and government agencies throughout the Chesapeake Bay region for a paid year of service ($19,000) beginning on August 18, 2020. To find the application go to https://cbtrust.org/prospective/. Applications must be submitted through the Trust’s online system by March 12, 2020 at 4:00 pm. For any questions about becoming a volunteer or about the Chesapeake Conservation Corps, contact Senior Program Officer Tara Drennan, tdrennan@cbtrust.org or 410-974-2941, ext. 102.

NOAA Chesapeake Research Consortium Climate Change Internship

The NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office (NCBO) and the Chesapeake Research Consortium (CRC) seeks a summer intern for late May through mid-August 2020 (12 weeks) to assist with the development of ecological indicators related to assessing the climate resiliency of living resources. Climate change indicators of interest include changes in Bay water temperature or shoreline condition (e.g., living shorelines, such as wetlands and oyster reefs, versus hardened shorelines), and corresponding impacts on fish and submerged aquatic vegetation habitats and species distribution. Specifically, the intern will work with the Chesapeake Bay Program Climate Resiliency Workgroup, managed by NCBO, and the NCBO habitat science team to identify and analyze relevant data and devise strategies to translate this information into indicators that can be used to track and analyze trends, impacts, and progress towards advancing climate resiliency – the ability to anticipate, prepare for, and adapt to changing conditions and to withstand, respond to, and recover rapidly from disruptions. This work supports the climate resiliency goals and outcomes in the 2014 Chesapeake Bay Watershed Agreement. for more information on the internship and to apply, click here.
