The Counseling Center invites you to Mental Health Awareness Week October 4-8. We have a full week of FUN and FREE programming to explore and improve mental health. Join us as we break down health barriers, STAMP out stigma, and take time for self-care.

With a variety of events, like yoga on the mall, creating art to heal from cultural injustice, depression screenings, plant-decorating, and more--there is something for everyone! And back by popular demand, the Counseling Center and Resident Life bring you the Terps Take Care Fair with *therapy dogs*, inflatables, games, giveaways, free food, self-care activities and more!

US Fish & Wildlife Service Hiring Federal Wildlife Officers

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS) has posted announcements to fill 24 Federal Wildlife Officer positions (GS-5/7/9) at patrol zones covering FWS National Wildlife Refuges across the United States.

Federal Wildlife Officers are among the most visible, recognizable conservation professionals entrusted with safeguarding the integrity of the National Wildlife Refuge System for future generations. Refuge Law Enforcement serves as a multi-purpose resource by combining resource protection, traditional policing, and emergency first response to protect and serve the public and Service staff. AGNR 2021 Request for Grant Proposals- Maryland Food Systems

The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources has opened a request for proposals focusing on its Healthy Food Systems strategic initiative.

The goal of this funding program is to develop engaging lessons, teaching tools and promotional products about Maryland’s Food System. The target audience is middle and high school students in public priority schools. Relevant lesson themes may include, but are not limited to components for a sustainable local food system:

• Production 
• Processing
• Distribution
• Marketing
• Access 
• Consumption 
• Food waste...

Climate Research & Policy Youth Conference 10/3

Join MaryPIRG Student Climate Action Coalition and Sunrise UMBC on Sunday, October 3rd from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm EST to hear how professors and graduate students at our universities are interacting and studying the impact of climate on their fields! At our Climate Research and Policy Youth Conference topics include legal responses to climate change, history and historical ecology of the Chesapeake Bay, green concrete, next-generation battery materials, and climate and environmental justice. Kappa Omega Alpha Rush

Kappa Omega Alpha is a premier public policy professional fraternity at UMD. KOA is open to students of all majors, whether they are public policy, government and politics or something completely different. They believe that all majors overlap in public policy in some way or another, so if you’re interested in learning more and getting involved with public policy, they would love to have you rush KOA.

Farm Credit Foundation for Agricultural Advancement Scholarship

The Farm Credit Foundation for Agricultural Advancement is offering at least $100,000 in academic scholarships to mid-Atlantic area to high school seniors or those currently enrolled in a two or four year higher education program with plans to pursue a career in agriculture. This doesn’t have to mean you’re planning to be a farmer – this also includes food scientists, veterinarians, ag teachers, or maybe even a Farm Credit loan officer!

Howard County Public Schools Grounds Manager Position

The Howard County Public Schools System is looking to hire a Grounds Manager. This is a 12-month per year position in the Non-Certificated Supervisory (NCS) unit. Under the direction of the Director of School Facilities and Operations, the Manager of Grounds Services is responsible for the leadership of Grounds Services staff, projects, special programs, and maintenance activities. The Manager of Grounds Services is responsible for the coordination and oversight of all grounds maintenance activities to ensure the highest level of customer service to all HCPSS stakeholder groups. This position is considered essential personnel for emergency events, including but not limited to, weather condition events.

UMD Extension Nutrient Management Coordinator

University of Maryland Extension is hiring nutrient management coordinators at multiple office locations in the state. Nutrient management advisors develop nutrient management plans for agricultural producers to balance nutrient inputs with crop requirements, thus enhancing production potential, improving farm profitability, reducing excess nutrient inputs into the Chesapeake Bay and enabling producers to comply with the Water Quality Improvement Act of 1998.

Resident assistants (RAs) help develop a community within their campus residence hall unit, serve as role models to other residents and more. Applications for RAs for the 2022–2023 school year are now open. Check out the Department of Resident Life’s website to learn more about the steps to apply, including attending a mandatory info session. Volunteer with College Park Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheel of College Park relies on their dedicated volunteers to pack and deliver meals for the cities of College Park, Greenbelt, Beltsville, Berwyn Heights and Adelphi. They may also cover other nearby areas. 

The facility if located approximately 7 minutes away from campus. If you would like to assist AGNR student Emily Hillig with prepping the meals (~7-10am) or driving (10:30-11:30am) them to houses, please contact ehillig@terpmail.umd.edu.
