The Society of Wetland Scientists would like to invite undergraduate students from underrepresented groups to apply for an award to attend their annual international meeting (2020 will be in Quebec, Canada). SWS hosts an annual, internationally attended conference to which they have available travel awards for undergraduate students. The mission of the Society of Wetland Scientists is to promote understanding, scientifically based management, and sustainable use of wetlands. The society is a voice in Washington DC on matters of wetland science and policy through affiliation with the American Institute of Biological Sciences (AIBS).
SWS offers benefits such as:
- An active awards program that recognizes outstanding wetland scientists, outstanding service to the profession, and outstanding student papers at their annual meeting
- A means of formal and informal outreach to wetland colleagues around the world
It is not a requirement that students have taken a wetlands course to qualify- if you have interest in research and environmental sciences, this opportunity may be valuable to you. This program is in its 15th year and has been well-received by the students who have participated. The award represents a great opportunity to participate in a professional meeting and to benefit from a formal mentoring program. They provide various activities related to career development that are valuable experiences for the students. Click here to apply.
NOTE: The deadline on the flyer says November 1, 2019; however it has been extended to November 8, 2019.
