POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT


Title: Agricultural Technician

Position Number: 125858

Category Status: Nonexempt, Contingent II (Full-time)

Unit: AGNR-AES-CMREC-Clarksville (Clarksville Facility, 4240 Folly Quarter Road, Ellicott City, MD 21042)

Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

To assist Facility Management with milking, daily operations, general facility/equipment maintenance, cleaning and assistance with research projects under general supervision.

Responsibilities:

• Animal care and handling with milking, daily operations, general facility/equipment maintenance, cleaning and assistance with research projects under general supervision.

• Facility cleaning and maintenance.

• Providing assistance on research projects as needed.

Qualifications:

Required–

• High School Diploma or GED.

• Three years of experience in agricultural work, one year of which must have been in agricultural research.

Preferred-

• Experience with large animal related agricultural work.

Other–

• Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Physical Demands: Ability to work in harsh work environment – excessive heat, cold, dirt & noise. Must be able to tolerate strenuous physical activity (lifting, shoveling, & leading recalcitrant cows) in adverse weather conditions. Ability to lift and transport agricultural supplies, tools, and equipment, to climb and to perform extensive standing and walking. Ability to wear personal protective equipment. Animal care requires weekend and holiday shifts as well as overtime as needed due to staffing shortages or scheduling conflicts.

Salary and Benefits: Salary will commensurate with experience, with a base salary of $35,438.00 per year. The University of Maryland offers an extensive benefits package.
