Registration is open at: https://agnr.umd.edu/academics/international-programs-agriculture-natural-resources
Strategic programming efforts such as 4-H exchange, travel abroad, and service learning trips that build on the foundational tenets of 4-H, especially upon enhanced
compassion and caring, can lead to youth’s increased acceptance of others and other cultures, and reduced tolerance of racism and xenophobia. The seminar will showcase two international experiences that Maryland 4-H offers; 4-H Agricultural Tour of Great Britain and; Leadership Learning Experiences in Tanzania Africa. Overview of the experiences will be shared including key programming elements that are intentionally designed to build leadership life skills in youth and also create a climate of opportunity to build empathy and enhanced respect for other cultures and races.
Lifelong implications of these experiences will be showcased as further testament to their importance. In addition to sharing positive outcomes of the experiences,
photos and video footage from Northern England, Scotland, and Tanzania will be incorporated to provide visual connections to the youths’ experiences.
