Summary

Full time farmer/gardener.  Washington DC.  $50,000 - $55,000 annual salary.

Start Date: March ‘25

Monday - Saturday for March-April, Monday - Friday rest of the year.
Extensive paid time off.

Job Description

An Up Top Acres farmer will manage the full lifecycle of a portfolio of farms
and gardens.  Work will primarily consist of field work, but will also include
administrative and record keeping responsibilities, and may also include
sales, and event leading/coordination.

During the growing season,  responsibilities will revolve around the day-to-
day farming and gardening work.  Farmers typically visit 2-3 sites per day
performing all necessary field work and harvest during those visits.  Prior
farm or market gardening experience is a plus; past garden or plant experience
is required.

Work is often performed alone, though larger sites and work activities will be
performed in groups or with the whole team.  Farmers are often required to
move numerous 40lb bags of soil / amendments, and maneuver heavy totes of
harvested produce through building environments.   Transportation of farmers
and materials is almost exclusively via electric bike & bike trailer - biking
skill and comfort is an important job skill.

Harvested produce is distributed either to “harvest tables” in the building/
complex of the garden, or to a local non-profit partner.  Maintenance of
ornamental gardens, pollinator and butterfly gardens, greenroofs, and interior
plants is also a part of the role depending on the portfolio of sites.

Each site visit is logged to track work completed, site & plant conditions,
and harvest.  Farmers are expected to present their site’s status and upcoming
work in weekly review meetings with the whole farm and garden staff.

This role will work closely with the entire Up Top Acres farm team including
the partners and director of horticulture.  We’re a small and growing team,
and everyone on the team has a seat at the table when decisions are made
regarding operations,  scheduling, delegation, etc.
