Bright Futures Scholarship: Application Open!

 Bright Futures image

Summer 2025's Bright Futures Application is Now Open!

Application Deadline: Mon, May 5, 2025

The Bright Futures Internship Scholarship Fund was created in 2009 to provide need-based scholarships for University of Maryland undergraduates participating in unpaid internships. Internships are crucial for students, as employers increasingly value work-related experience. To address the financial challenge of unpaid internships, the University Career Center initiated the Bright Futures program, which collaborates with donors to offer direct funding to students. This funding allows students to take advantage of essential and transformative opportunities.

The Bright Futures Initiative awards students with need-based scholarships ranging from $100-$1,000 to help offset expenses incurred during unpaid internships in the summer. Scholarships are generously funded by the Eisen Family, the University Career Center and individual donors through Maryland Giving Day.

If you are an undergraduate student who has secured an unpaid summer internship with a non-profit organization or government office, you are eligible to apply.  Additional eligibility details are provided below.

Farm School Program - 4/28

We know that for university students, it can be challenging to bridge the gap between the classroom and life beyond university.  Our Farm School program offers one avenue for students educated in sustainable agriculture and environmental studies to gain hands-on experience of working farming systems.

The Farm School at Ridgewood Ranch is an immersive, intensive introduction to small-scale agriculture.  Located on a working ranch in Northern California, the School draws on the rich agricultural history of Mendocino County and the myriad of initiatives in sustainable and regenerative farming and land stewardship that have grown up here.

The School of Adaptive Agriculture has been providing agricultural education and farmer support in Northern California for 10+ years through its Farm School, Farm Incubator and farmer training programs.   We ask your help in sharing the opportunity for an immersion in local farming systems with your students.  The program includes work-learn experiences on nearby farms, classes in small-scale agriculture from market gardening to grain and livestock production on a small scale, and farm tours in Mendocino and neighboring Lake and Sonoma counties.  Students live in a rustic setting, with communal meals and plenty of opportunities for discussion and work with mentors.  For more information, please refer students to:
